Junior Round-up

Candace Schepperle of Hoover, Ala., will compete in the Florida's Natural Charity Championship this weekend at Eagle's Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Ga. The 18-year-old senior shot 71 Monday to become a Monday qualifier for the event. In 2005, Schepperle won her first AJGA event at the Ringgold Telephone Company Junior Classic. She has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her golf career in the fall at Auburn University.

AJGA alum Amanda Blumenherst

Duke's Amanda Blumenherst wrapped up her stellar freshman year by taking home the individual title at the ACC Championship last weekend. The four-time Rolex Junior All-American took home medalist honors two other times this season. She finished the weekend with a 69-71-72 - 212 tournament total. The Scottsdale, Ariz., native led the Duke golf team to it's 14th team title. It is the 11th title in a row for the Blue Devils.

Rob Grube of Stanford carded a 5-under-par tournament total Sunday to earn medalist honors at the US Intercollegiate by The Maple Fund. Finishing tied for second were Erik Flores of UCLA, Garrett Sapp of UC-Irvine, Kyle Gentry of Stanford and Taylor Wood of USC. UCLA went on to take home team honors.

Other AJGA Alumni in Men's College Golf...

Navy's Erich Schoen finished the Navy Spring Invitational with a two day total of 139 to earn medalist honors. Rider earned the top team honors...Northwestern took home team medalist honors at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate led by Kyle Moore. Seth Brandon of Indiana tied for the top spot with Moore. Moore's teammate, David Merkow, rounded out the top three...Texas Tech's Oscar Floren finished 7-under-par at The Aggie Invitational leading his team to top honors. Baylor's Ryan Baca finished three strokes behind in second...Ben Spitz of Rhode Island defeated Binghampton's Jeff Wolniewicz in a playoff at the New England Division I Championship. The duo finished at 3-under-par and Binghampton took home team medalist honors.

Other AJGA Alumni in Women's College Golf...

The SEC Championship leaderboard was filled with former AJGA golfers. Helping lead Auburn to its sixth team title was senior Maria Martinez with a 5-under-par three day total of 211. Finishing four strokes back was Tennessee's Marci Turner. In third place, Martinez's teammate, Margaret Shirley, finished the tournament at 1-over-par. Vanderbilt's Jacqui Concolino finished in fourth followed by Georigia's Taylor Leon and LSU's Melissa Eaton, who tied for fifth.

ACE

The Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant program provides financial assistance to junior golfers who wish to play in AJGA events. Its goal is to give top-flight golf opportunities to young golfers regardless of financial resources. This program helps to fulfill the AJGA’s mission of developing young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf.

What is Leadership Links?

Leadership Links is a new program whereby the AJGA is able to further its mission to help develop young men and women by teaching charitable giving skills and service-oriented practices at an early age. This program gives juniors all the tools necessary to donate their time, talent and resources to local charities and the AJGA youth development programs.
