Kelly maintains lead at the Columbus Junior presented by the Memorial Tournament
Prince jumps ahead in the Girls Division at The Ohio State University Golf Club - Scarlet Course

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Tee-k Kelly of Wheaton, Ill., shot a 1-over-par 72 to sustain a two-shot lead in the Boys Division of the Columbus Junior presented by the Memorial Tournament. In the Girls Division, Kendall Prince of Lake Oswego, Ore., equaled her effort from the first round, by carding a 3-over-par 74 to leapfrog into the lead.

The Columbus Junior presented by the Memorial Tournament is a 54-hole stroke play event conducted by the American Junior Golf Association at The Ohio State University Golf Club — Scarlet Course. The tournament field includes 72 boys and 24 girls, ages 12-18 from 17 states, Canada and Colombia. The Boys Division is playing the par-71 course at 6,992 yards and the Girls Division is playing at 6,062 yards.

Kelly maintained his two-stroke lead, by staying consistent despite some unlucky breaks on the greens. The rising senior shot a 1-over-par 72 to stand at 1-under-par 141 for the tournament.

“I started out with a birdie on No. 1 again, which kind of got me rolling,” Kelly said. “It was a pretty similar round to yesterday, except I didn't get as many putts to drop as I did yesterday. I thought that the pins were more accessible from the fairway, but around the greens they were a lot harder to putt to than the pins were yesterday.”

Mert Selamet of Dublin, Ohio, and Joo-Young Lee of Hilliard, Ohio, sit in second with a 2-over-par 143. Vincent Martino of Southlake, Texas, and Brad Burgess of St. Catherines, Ontario, finished the day in a tie for fourth with tournament totals of 3-over-par 145.

In the Girls Division, Prince stayed consistent during the second day, equaling her total from the first round with a 3-over-par 74. The future Ohio State University Buckeye holds a slight one shot advantage at 6-over-par 148 heading into the final 18.

“I focused a lot more on my putting today,” Prince said. “I got back on track after I eagled No. 12. I crushed my drive and was able to hit my hybrid from 180 yards out and sink a putt. I'm looking forward to defending my future home turf tomorrow.”

One shot behind Prince sits Lauren Grogan of Columbus, Ohio, a University of Michigan commit, who shot an 8-over-par 79 to sit at 7-over-par 149 for the tournament. Third place belongs to Elyse Smidinger of Crofton, Md., who stands at 9-over-par 151 after carding a second-round score of 4-over-par 75.

The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf.
