Ghim solidifies win in the final round at Coca-Cola Junior Championship at Boyne Highlands
Armstrong earns first AJGA win in the Girls Division at Boyne Highlands Resort - Moor Course

HARBOR SPRINGS, Mich. — Doug Ghim of Arlington Heights, Ill., finished at 11-under par 205 to take the win at the Coca-Cola Junior Championship at Boyne Highlands. In the Girls Division, Ashley Armstrong of Flossmoor, Ill., carded an 8-under-par 208 tournament total to take her first AJGA win in her last AJGA event.

The Coca-Cola Junior Championship at Boyne Highlands was a 54-hole stroke play event conducted by the American Junior Golf Association at Boyne Highlands Resort — Moor Course in Harbor Springs, Mich. The tournament field included 105 boys and 36 girls, ages 12-18 from 14 states, Canada, Colombia and Thailand. The Boys Division played the par-72 course at 6,832 yards and the Girls Division played at 6,028 yards.

Ghim extended his lead to 10 strokes after carding a 4-under-par 68 in the final round. Shooting an identical front nine score in both the second and final rounds, Ghim credited consistency as a leading factor to his success.

“Today I felt good from the start,” Ghim said. “The front nine felt like a carbon copy of yesterday's round, and this week I struck the ball better than I ever have. This win makes me excited for the weeks to come.”

In second place, Adam Wood of Zionsville, Ind., carded a 1-under-par 215 tournament total. Drew Miller of Thousand Oaks, Calif., came in third scoring an even-par 216. Tied for fourth, Sean Friel of Rochester Hills, Mich., Will Seger of Jasper, Ind., Henry Do of Ypsilanti, Mich., Voramate Aussarassakorn of Bangkok, Thailand, Michael Nagy of Manistique, Mich., and Max Kollin of Farmington Hills, Mich., all finished at 1-over-par 217.

In the Girls Division, Armstrong went wire-to-wire for the victory in her last AJGA event before attending the University of Notre Dame in the fall. Armstrong, who finished four strokes ahead of the field, wanted to continue her game plan going into the final round.

“I was back in it today,” Armstrong said. “I just focused on the shot at hand and hoped for the best. It feels great to be swinging well again.”

Finishing in second, Jessica Porvasnik of Hinckley, Ohio, carded a 4-under-par 212 tournament total. Lindsey Weaver of Scottsdale, Ariz., came in at 1-under-par 215 to secure third place.

The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. The AJGA provides valuable exposure for college golf scholarships, and has an annual junior membership (boys and girls ages 12-18) of approximately 5,000 junior golfers from 49 states and more than 40 countries. To ensure scholarship opportunities for all junior golfers who have the skill, the AJGA created the Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant program to provide financial assistance to young players in need.

Titleist, the AJGA's National Sponsor, has been the catalyst and driving force behind the Association's success since 1989. Rolex, which is in its third decade of AJGA support, became the inaugural AJGA Premier Partner in 2004. In 2007, after 12 years of support, Polo Ralph Lauren became the AJGA's second Premier Partner.

AJGA alumni have risen to the top of amateur, collegiate and professional golf. Former AJGA juniors have compiled more than 500 victories on the PGA and LPGA Tours. AJGA alumni include Stewart Cink, Matt Kuchar, Hunter Mahan, Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, Paula Creamer, Cristie Kerr, Inbee Park and Morgan Pressel.

Boyne Highlands Resort, located in Harbor Springs, Michigan, is home to The Golf Channel's Big Break X: Michigan.
