Walker Clings to Lead Heading into Final Round at
Junior All-Star at Eagle Ridge

LaBarbera holds on to top spot in Girls Divison at
Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa - South Course

GALENA, Ill. — Matthew Walker of Ottumwa, Iowa, shot even-par 72, for a tournament total of 1-over-par 145 and sits atop the leader board in the Boys Division. Jordan LaBarbera of Allen, Texas, leads by one stroke after a second round 8-over-par 80, puts her at 13-over-par 157.

The Junior All-Star at Eagle Ridge is one of 10 events in the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy Junior All-Star Series. Specifically designed for boys and girls ages 12-15, the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy Junior All-Star Series presents opportunities for younger players to develop their skills and earn entry into AJGA Open tournaments. The Series concludes with the Montverde Academy Junior All-Star Invitational over Columbus Day weekend for winners and top finishers in Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy All-Star Series events. The tournament field includes 74 boys and 25 girls, ages 12-15 from 26 states, Thailand, China, Ecuador and Mexico. The Boys Division is playing the par-72 course at 6,578 yards and the Girls Division is playing at 5,855 yards.

Walker said he is happy with his performance in the last two rounds, and is excited to be the leader heading into Thursday's final round.

“I have won quite a few other events, and I was not sure how I would do out here with the bigger guys,” Walker said. “It feels good to be the leader right now.

Matthew Weber of Saint Charles Ill., sits in second with a score of 2-over-par 146. Poom Pattaropong of Thailand and Curren Mody of Monmouth Junction, N.J., are tied for third place. Pattaropong and Mody are at 3-over-par 147. Philip Barbaree of Shreveport, La., and Zachary Smith of Pleasanton, Calif., are tied for fifth at 4-over-par 148.

LaBarbera said she believes her success in the first two rounds is a result of her approach shots and putting, however she hopes to improve in Thursday's final round.

“I really like the greens. I was putting really well yesterday and on the front nine today. Hopefully I will be able to putt better tomorrow,” Labarbera said. “My approach shots are really good. I hit a couple to about 10-feet yesterday and on the front-nine today. Hopefully tomorrow can be the same.”

Bing Singhsumalee of Naperville, Ill., Alexandra Harkins of Crystal Lake, Ill., and Joo Youn Seo of Niguel, Calif. are tied for second at 14-over-par 158.

The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf.
