Proveaux remains atop Boys Division after second round
Then ties course record to take the lead

SUNRIVER, Ore. – Cody Proveaux of Leesville, S.C., stayed atop the Boys Division shooting even-par 72 for a two-round tournament total of 140 in Wednesday’s second round of the Rolex Tournament of Champions. Gabriella Then of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., fired a 5-under-par 67, tying the competitive course record at the Crosswater Course at Sunriver Resort to take the lead in the Girls Division.

The Rolex Tournament of Champions is a 72-hole stroke play event conducted by the American Junior Golf Association at Sunriver Resort - Crosswater Course in Sunriver, Ore. The tournament field features 77 boys and 66 girls from 31 states, Argentina, Canada, China, Colombia, Hong Kong, Japan, Mexico, Martinique, Philippines, South Korea, Sweden, Taiwan and Thailand. The Boys Division is playing the par-72 course at 7,542 yards and the Girls Division is playing at 6,463 yards.

Proveaux's 30-footer from off the green on No.10 fueled his momentum and pushed him through to successfully hold his lead through the second round.

“I just kept the ball in front of me. I didn't really hit it out of play that much,” Proveaux said. “I scrambled a little bit on the front and backside, but when I could, I made birdies.”

Heading into the third round with a one-shot lead, Proveaux said, “It's not my first time. Hopefully I can take grasp of that and shoot low again the next few days.”

Tied for second place is Shun Yat Hak of Lake Mary, Fla., and Kyle Kochevar of Glen Ellyn, Ill., with 3-under-par 141 after the second round. David Faraudo of Guadalajara, Mexico sits in fourth with a two-day tournament total of 142, while Lee McCoy of Clarkesville, Ga., sits in fifth with a two-round total of 143.

In the Girls Division, Then captured the lead after carding a two-day total of 139 at the Rolex Tournament of Champions.

“I started on the back nine today, but the birdie I had on No. 10 out of the bunker was a turning point in my game,” Then said.

Going into the third round, Then, who carded five birdies on the day, feels the most important attribute of her game is her putting.

Tied for second place are first-round leader Ariya Jutanugarn of Bangkok, Thailand and Alison Lee of Valencia, Calif., both shooting 2-under-par 70 with a two-round tournament total of 140.
