Cox Takes Over Lead at AccuSport Championship hosted by Webb Simpson
Unson holds her ground, has 4-shot advantage in Girls Division at Tanglewood Park

CLEMMONS, N.C. — Chad Cox of Charlotte, N.C., fired a 5-under-par 65 to take a four-shot lead heading into the final round of the AccuSport Championship hosted by Webb Simpson. In the Girls Division, Andrea Unson of Murrieta, Calif., held onto her lead with a 4-over-par 74 Wednesday.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the AccuSport Championship hosted by Webb Simpson is a 53-hole stroke play event held at Tanglewood Park-Championship Course. The field features 70 boys and 20 girls, ages 12-18, from 16 states, South Africa and Italy. The par-70 course is playing at 6,632 yards in the Boys Division and 5,886 yards in the Girls Division.

Cox didn't waste any time getting his day going as he quickly grabbed birdies on Nos. 1 and 2. After a par on the third, he snagged another birdie when he chipped in on No. 4 from short of the green. At that point, his confidence was sky high.

“Sometimes, I just feel real confident and I've been striking the ball real well lately,” Cox said. “I finally feel like I made some putts.”

Cox drained seven birdies to shoot 65 and to open a four-shot lead heading into Thursday's final round. But he doesn't plan on changing his mindset for getting his first win.

“I'm just going to keep playing how I'm playing and not get too far ahead,” Cox said.

In second, after a 4-under-par 66 Wednesday, is Wilson Day of Raleigh, N.C., at 2-under-par 138. Corey Weckerling of Oakwood, Ohio, and Max Van Dresser of Alpharetta, Ga., are tied for third at even-par 140. Carter Jenkins of Raleigh, N.C., Todd Eckstein of Durham, N.C., Richard Hubbard of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., and Blake Stasiunas of Leander, Texas, are tied for fifth at 1-over-par 141.

Unson, who first had to qualify Sunday just to get into the event, finds herself atop the leaderboard at 1-over-par 141 going into the final round after rounds of 67 and 74.

“I worked hard to qualify for this event, so I'm just happy that my hard work is paying off,” Unson said.

Unson picked up right where she left off Tuesday with birdies on Nos. 2, 3 and 4 after an eight birdie showing in the first round.

“It would mean a lot for me to win since I had to qualify to get in, so I'm just going to do my best tomorrow,” Unson said.

Four back of Unson, in second, is Alexandra Rossi of Austin, Texas, at 5-over-par 145. Chantakan Chanpalangsri of Boca Raton, Fla., is third at 8-over-par 148.
