Wolf Fights off the Field at Preseason Junior at White Hawk presented by South Shore Sports
Dubsky pulls away from Girls Division at White Hawk Country Club

CROWN POINT, Ind. — One day after being tied atop the leaderboard in the Preseason Junior at White Hawk presented by South Shore Sports, Michael Wolf of Mason, Ohio, was able to see his name sitting all alone in first. Wolf used a 2-over-par 74 in the final round at White Hawk Country Club and finished 3-over-par 147 for the tournament to earn medalist honors. Harley Dubsky of nearby Valparaiso, Ind., was the Girls Division medalist after she broke a first round tie of her own by shooting a 3-over-par 75 to finish 7-over-par 151 for the tournament.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Preseason Junior at White Hawk presented by South Shore Sports was a 36-hole stroke play event held at White Hawk Country Club on the Red and Silver courses. The 96-player field featured players from 10 states. The Boys Division played White Hawk Country Club at 6,978 yards, while the Girls Division played the course at 5,922 yards.

The Preseason Junior at White Hawk presented by South Shore Sports is one of eight events held as part of the Golf Academy of America Preseason Junior Series. The Golf Academy of America Preseason Junior Series is a series designed specifically for first-time AJGA members or those members who have not yet been accepted to or participated in an AJGA event in the current calendar year and/or the previous calendar year.

Wolf was able to stay ahead of the pack, despite the course playing much different than the first round, as an overnight shower changed the conditions of the course for Sunday's round. He was able to birdie both par-3's on the back nine that included making a putt from 5 feet off the green on No. 13.

“I was hoping to shoot in the mid-to-high 70s with this being my first AJGA event,” Wolf said. “So, I exceeded my goals, and it feels good.”

Joe Willis of Lake Forest, Ill., had the low final round of the day, an even-par 72, and finished in second place at 5-over-par 149 for the tournament. Jake McBride of Hartville, Ohio, finished in third place with a 6-over-par 150. John Walsh of Naperville, Ill., and Nate Yankovich of Blacklick, Ohio, finished at 7-over-par 151 to tie for fourth place.

Dubsky set her sights on a top-3 finish after holding a share of the lead in the first round, but was able to overcome tough competition and stay alone atop the leaderboard.

“It was really just about my game,” Dubsky said. “There were a lot of girls that were close behind (after yesterday). I couldn't worry about them, and I couldn't worry about the putts that I didn't make. I played well for me and that's what it's really all about.”

Kelly Grassel of Chesterton, Ind., who shared the first-round lead with Dubsky, and Haylee Harford of Leavittsburg, Ohio, each finished at 8-over-par 152 and tied for second place.
