AJGA visits Horseshoe Bay Resort - Ram Rock Course
Named one of the top 15 courses in Texas, Ram Rock is well known for its dramatic elevation changes, narrow fairways and rolling greens.
Remembering Harvey Penick
Harvey Penick, PGA professional and coach to many Hall of Fame players, was an Austin native. Penick was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2002, seven years following his death and penned the book "Harvey Penick's Little Red Book." The book is filled with easily understood golf anecdotes and is one of the highest selling golf book ever published. Penick was passionate about students and the game of golf, in addition to coaching professionals such as Davis Love and Betsy Rawls. Penick coached at the University of Texas from 1931 to 1963.
Local flavor
53 players from Texas will compete in the tournament, with seven hailing from the Austin area. Henrik Olsson, a sophomore at Westlake High School, competed at another AJGA Austin-area event in April, the 2013 Preseason Junior at Cimarron Hills.

Top Players to Watch

Philip Barbaree, Shreveport, La. (2017)
Named to the 2012 Rolex Junior All-America honorable mention list, Barbaree has two AJGA wins on his resume. In 2011, rounds of 76-72-71 for a tournament total 219 earned him the top spot in the Junior All-Star at Eagle Ridge. In 2012, he took home the championship at the Junior All-Star Invitational with rounds of 71-69-69-209.
Henrik Olsson, Austin, Texas (2016)
An Austin native, Olsson is competing in his third AJGA event of the 2013 season. The high school sophomore placed T11 at the 2013 Preseason Junior at Cimarron Hills after round of 86-73 for a tournament total 159.
Matthew Modelo, Chula Vista, Calif. (2016)
Modelo finished tied for medalist honors in his first career AJGA event, April's Preseason Junior at Marshallia Ranch. Modela looks to continue his winning ways as he competes in the first Junior All-Star event of his AJGA career.
Hailee Cooper, Montgomery, Texas (2018)
At the 2013 Junior All-Star at Gray Plantation, Cooper put together rounds of 74-71-69 for a tournament total 214, earning her her first AJGA Championship. In 2012, Cooper placed in the top-10 five times, highlighted by a fourth- place finish at the Sooner Junior All-Star.
Beryl Wang, Sugar Land, Texas (2016)
Wang, a rising high school sophomore, has already recorded two top-10 finishes in AJGA competition in 2013. Wang placed eighth at the Preseason Junior at Cimarron Hills and ninth at the Junior All-Star at Gray Plantation.

Media Accommodations

The Harvey Penick Junior All-Star will have AJGA communications representatives on hand to assist media throughout the week. Prior to the tournament the AJGA will provide information about the event and its participants, as well as assist with player interviews.

After each round, media officials on-site will write a recap with the day's results. These will be emailed to all media outlets. Interviews with AJGA Tournament Directors, Tournament Chairmen and juniors may be conducted before or after tournament rounds.

Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy Junior All-Star Series

The Harvey Penick Junior All-Star is one of 14 events in the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy Junior All-Star Series. Specifically designed for boys and girls ages 12-15, the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy Junior All-Star Series presents opportunities for younger players to develop their skills and earn entry into AJGA Open tournaments. The Series concludes with the Junior All-Star Invitational sponsored by NIKEGOLF over Columbus Day weekend for winners and top finishers in Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy Junior All-Star Series events.

Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy

The Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy, located near Orlando, Fla., in Howey-in-the-Hills at Bishops Gate Golf & Lakeside Community, is the world’s premier junior golf academy. In addition to the junior golf program, GGGA also features summer golf camps, winter golf camps and programs, training and golf lessons for amateurs, professionals and adults.

Gary Gilchrist, founder of the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy, has been recognized as a Golf Magazine Top 100 Teacher 2013-2014 and as a Golf Digest Top 50 Teacher in America 2011-2012 and 2013-2014. Gilchrist teaches many of the games top juniors and pros at the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy, of which include: Morgan Hoffmann, Shanshan Feng, Sandra Gal and many more.

About the AJGA

The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. The AJGA provides valuable exposure for college golf scholarships, and has an annual junior membership (boys and girls ages 12-18) of approximately 6,000 junior golfers from 49 states and more than 50 countries. To ensure scholarship opportunities for all junior golfers who have the skill, the AJGA created the Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant program to provide financial assistance to young players in need.
