Alternate Policy

If the AJGA receives more applications than spots available in the event field, a prioritized alternate list is created based on the entry criteria for that tournament or qualifier series. In order to be considered as a potential alternate, an application must have been submitted prior to the application deadline.

AJGA Qualifier events

Alternate lists are posted on each event page at ajga.org.

Open, AJGA Junior All-Star Series, AJGA Preview Series, and AJGA Senior tournaments without a corresponding AJGA Qualifier

Alternate lists are posted on each event page at ajga.org. A player's alternate position will NOT change as Performance Based Entry (PBE) status is earned.

Open, AJGA Junior All-Star Series, and AJGA Preview Series tournaments with a corresponding AJGA Qualifier

Alternate lists are posted on each event page at ajga.org. A player's alternate position will NOT change as Performance Based Entry (PBE) status is earned.

Prior to the Qualifier, tournament alternates will be contacted if there is a need to fill a tournament spot.

After the Qualifier is completed, participants who fail to qualify with the next best score will be placed on an alternate list. Alternate status will be determined by the following formula:

  1. The order of finish in a playoff.
  2. Total score on Nos. 1-6 handicap holes on the course scorecard.
  3. Total score on Nos. 7-12 handicap holes on the course scorecard.
  4. Lowest individual hole score starting at No. 1 handicap hole until the tie is broken.
  5. By lot.

AJGA Invitationals

Please see the Invitational Criteria located under the AJGA Invitational Schedule to view how each Invitational is filled.

Alternate spots are filled via the Rolex AJGA Rankings.

After the initial application deadline for each invitational, a Priority List will be available on the Rolex AJGA Rankings homepage to view a player’s current alternate status. Please note that alternate status can fluctuate with each Rolex AJGA Rankings update.

Notes

An AJGA official will contact each alternate as there becomes a need to fill a spot in the field.

If the committee becomes aware of a withdrawal prior to a starting time then the committee will try to notify the first, or if the first alternate is not available, the highest available alternate of their starting time.

If the committee is not aware of a withdrawal and a player simply fails to appear for a starting time or arrives after the five minute time period, then the highest available alternate who is ready to play may take that spot.
