WILSON STAYS STEADY, CARDS 2-UNDER-PAR 69 TO EXTEND LEAD
Weaver maintains lead after second round in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Cameron Wilson of Rowayton, Conn., dipped into the red once again Wednesday, carding a 2-under-par 69 en route to a two-day total of 6-under-par 136 and the lead heading into the final round of the Nationwide Insurance Junior presented by the Memorial Tournament. Lindsey Weaver of Scottsdale, Ariz., continued to build her lead in the Girls Division, firing a 1-under-par 70 to place her at 1-over-par 143 for the tournament, four strokes ahead of the field.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Nationwide Insurance Junior presented by the Memorial Tournament is a 54-hole stroke play event being held at The Ohio State University Golf Club — Scarlet Course. The tournament field features 75 boys and 24 girls, ages 15-18, from 24 states, Mexico, Canada and Taiwan. The Boys Division is playing the par-71 course at 7,017 yards, while the Girls Division is playing the layout at 6,061 yards.

Ahead of the field by two strokes, Wilson continued to roll, carding four birdies on the day to bring his total to nine for the tournament. Firing 34-35 on the front and back nines, respectively, Wilson said his round was steady, but not spectacular.

“I had a good start with those birdies on the first two holes, but my day basically consisted of easy pars but not many birdies,” Wilson said. “Yesterday I was solid down the stretch, so today was a bit of a let down. For tomorrow though, I just need to play the same game and I should have a pretty good chance.”

Chad Merzbacher of Dublin, Ohio, currently sits in second after posting a two-day total of 4-under-par 138. Justin Thomas of Goshen, Ky., and Ross Frankenberg of Barrington, Ill., are tied for third with totals of even-par 142, while Matthew Porter of Cortland, N.Y., and David Tepe of Liberty Township, Ohio, sit tied for fifth at 2-over-par 144.

With the only under-par round in the Girls Division, Weaver fired four birdies on the day, including a three-hole streak on Nos. 3, 4 and 5. The fifteen-year-old is in search of her fourth AJGA career victory.

“I could have done better today,” Weaver said. “I will probably make some better club selections tomorrow, but I don't plan on changing my game much.”

Remaining in second after posting a two-day total of 5-over-par 147 is Emma Talley of Princeton, Ky., while Lauren Weaver of Scottsdale, Ariz., rounds out the top three with a 6-over-par 148 total.
