KIM GETS FIRST AJGA WIN AT TOMATOBANK SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA CLASSIC
Frasier wins in sudden-death playoff at Oak Valley Golf Club

BEAUMONT, Calif. — Chan Kim of Honolulu shot a three-day total of 8-under-par 208 to win the inaugural TomatoBank Southern California Classic. In the Girls Division, Danielle Frasier of Encinitas, Calif., carded a 2-under-par 70 in the final round Thursday to claim the victory in the Girls Division at Oak Valley Golf Club.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the TomatoBank Southern California Classic was a 54-hole stroke play event featuring 101 boys and 42 girls, ages 12-18. Nine states and four foreign countries were represented, with 117 juniors from California. The event was staged on the par-72 Oak Valley Golf Club course with boys tees set at 6,894 yards and girls tees at 6,079 yards. A cut was made after the second round, leaving 58 boys with scores of 154 or better, and 22 girls with scores of 153 or better.

Kim had the lead going into the final round Thursday, and said his plan was to match each score his competitors shot to stay atop the leader group. A 1-under-par 71 on the final day of play was enough to get his first AJGA victory.

“It feels really good to finally say I won an AJGA event,” Kim said. “I can't believe that it has finally happened, and I now have the opportunity to play in Invitationals.”

Tied for second place were Nicholas Losole III of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Philip Chian of Covina, Calif., at 6-under-par 210. Kevin Lim of Fullerton, Calif., Cheng-Tsung Pan of Upland, Calif., and Bobby Lange of Sherman Oaks, Calif., all tied for fourth place at 4-under-par 212.

In the Girls Division, Frasier took her second win of the year in AJGA tournament play in a two-hole sudden-death playoff against Tzu-Chi Lin of Hacienda Heights, Calif. A long time member of the AJGA, Frasier carded three birdies on the back nine for a final-round score of 2-under-par 70 and a three day total of 5-under par 211.

“My goal was to shoot under par for the whole tournament, which I did,” Frasier said. “When it came time for the playoff I just planned to play my game and hope Tzu-Chi would make a mistake.”

Rounding out the top three spots were Lin who took second place at 5-under-par 211 and Victoria Sungmin Park of Irvine, Calif., in third place at 2-over-par 218.
