McINERNEY'S EIGHT BIRDIES HELP HIM RETAIN AT 6-UNDER-PAR IN JUNIOR ALL-STAR AT LAKE HAVASU
Chun leads Girls Division with two-day total of even par at The Refuge Golf Club

LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. — After another windy day of play, AJ McInerney of Henderson, Nev., leads the Boys Division of the American Junior Golf Association's Junior All-Star at Lake Havasu, after shooting 67-69 — 136 two-day total. In the Girls Division, Michele Chun of Ontario, Calif., finished the round with a seven-stroke lead over the field.

Conducted by the AJGA, the Junior All-Star at Lake Havasu is a 54-hole stroke play event featuring 63 boys and 17 girls, ages 12-15. The 80-player field consists of 36 juniors from California, 15 from Arizona. The boys plays from tees set at 6,757 yards and the girls from 5,960 yards.

McInerney was able to turn in a low scorecard with the help of only 26 putts. With eight birdies McInerney has a two-day lead of five strokes.

“Today, putting kept me from turning in a high score,” said McInerney. “The entire day I tried to stay calm and make as many birdies as I could when I putted.”

Other leaders in the Boys Division include Kyohei Itamura of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., and Yi Keun Chang of Walnut, Calif., who are tied for second at 141. John Varol of Weddington, N.C., is in fourth with a 142. Alex Bungert of Orange, Calif., is alone in fifth at 143.

In the Girls Division, Chun started her day off with two bogeys on Nos.10 and 11 but was still able to go one and shoot an even-par for the day

“My goals for today were to improve my ball striking, hitting the greens, and two-putting,” said Chun. “The wind didn't have a huge effect on my game because I just made sure I stuck to my swing.”

Other leaders in the Girls Division include Samantha Martin of Los Angeles, Calif., who sits in second with a 149 Alison Lee of Valencia, Calif., whose 150 two-day total puts her in third
