PAIR OF BENS TIED FOR LEAD AT 3-UNDER-PAR 69
8 Players Within 3 Strokes of the Lead

FRANKFORT, Ill. — Ben Glatz of Kildeer, Ill., and Ben Peacock of Marshall, Mich., are tied for the lead at the Medicus Preseason Junior in the Chicago Southland after opening-rounds of 3-under-par 69.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Medicus Preseason Junior in the Chicago Southland is a 36-hole stroke play event being held at Green Garden Country Club — Blue Course. The 83-player field features players from 17 states and Canada. The course is playing at 6,587 yards.

For Peacock, the front nine was where he felt best. He birdied Nos. 1 and 2, made eagle on No. 6 and another birdie on No. 8 for a front nine score of 5-under-par 31. Peacock said he could see all of his short game practice paying off.

“I hit the ball well on the front,” Peacock said. “It seemed like I was hitting everything within five feet.”

On the other hand, Glatz showed his strength on the back side. After shooting even-par 36 on the front nine, Glatz went 4-under-par on his last four holes. His late run was keyed by an eagle on No. 17 that gave him a back nine total of 3-under-par 33. Despite his hot finish, Glatz said there were still some improvements he wanted to make.

“I want to work on my irons for tomorrow,” Glatz said. “They are a little out of control.”

Peter Korbakes of Lemont, Ill., is alone in third place after a round of 2-under-par 70. Michael Wuertz of Davenport, Iowa, Greg Meisner of Waterford, Mich., and Ben Westley of Minneapolis, Minn., are tied for fourth place after opening-rounds of 1-under-par 71.
