REEVES, ERNST TOP QUALIFIER FIELD FOR MIZUNO JUNIOR AT CHATEAU ELAN
15 players qualify through Srixon Qualifier Series

BRASELTON, Ga.? Seth Reeves of Duluth, Ga., shot 3-under-par 68 Wednesday on the Chateau Course at Chateau Elan to lead the boys qualifiers for the Mizuno Junior at Chateau Elan. On the girls' side, Austin Ernst was the Srixon Qualifier medalist for the second-straight year.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Mizuno Junior at Chateau Elan Srixon Qualifier featured 83 boys and 19 girls? ages 12-18? each trying to play their way into the Mizuno Junior at Chateau Elan. Seventeen states were represented in the field, including 40 from the Peach State. The Boys Division played at 6,797 yards, while the Girls Division played at 5,986 yards on the par-71 Chateau Course.

Reeves, a student at nearby Peachtree Ridge High School, carded five birdies to qualify for his first AJGA Open tournament.

“On the range, I felt good. I was hitting it solid,?Reeves said. “So I tried to take that to the course. I relaxed and tried to have fun. That was my mindset and it worked.?

Other boys' qualifiers included Matt Carroll of Heathrow, Fla., Cory Crump of Peachtree City, Ga., and Michael Murray of Bradenton, Fla., at 1-over-par 72; Brewer Bradshaw of Columbia, S.C., Shay Womack, Jr., of Marietta, Ga., and Drew Page of Waynesville, N.C., at 2-over-par 73; and Brooks Beanland of Cary N.C., Corbin Mills of Easley, S.C., Eric and William Park of Chapel Hill, N.C., and John Gregory Joseph of Valdosta, Ga., at 74.

Emerging from a playoff for the final spot in the field was Timothy Kim of Rome, Ga., who shot 3-over-par 75 and outlasted six other players in six holes of sudden death.

In the Girls Division, Ernst, 15, of Seneca, S.C., returned to the medalist stand with a 2-over-par 73. Ernst cut four shots off last year's medalist score of 77, to join her brother Drew in the field for the Mizuno Junior at Chateau Elan.

Ernst made one birdie at the 17th hole after hitting her approach to 10 feet. Her expectations are high for the tournament.

“I really want to get a top five at least,?she said. “I've had two other top 10s in the AJGA.?

Also qualifying in the Girls Division was Courtney McKim of Raleigh, N.C., at 3-over-par 74.
