TRAVIS EARNS MEDALIST HONORS AT SRIXON QUALIFIER
Kummerfeld holds off field to earn medalist honors

DIABLO GRANDE, Calif. — Taylor Travis of Freemont, Calif., and Grace Kummerfeld of Riverside, Calif., collected medalist honors at the Srixon Qualifier for the CORE Realty Holdings Junior Classic. Travis was able to lead the field by one stroke with a 3-under-par 69 performance, while Kummerfeld held onto a two-stroke advantage.

The Srixon Qualifier for the CORE Realty Holdings Junior Classic, conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, was an 18-hole stroke play event held at Diablo Grande Golf Resort's Ranch Course. The course played at par 72 for the Boys Division and par 71 for the Girls Division. The field included 85 players from eight states, with 74 from the host state of California.

Travis got off to a quick start, carding birdies on three of his first five holes. From there his confidence continued to build as he coasted his way home at even-par. Travis was able to meet his goals of avoiding big numbers and earning a spot in the CORE Realty Holdings Junior Classic to begin Tuesday.

“It means a lot to qualify for this field,” Travis said. “It will be nice to see where I compare with the rest of the field, but I'm confident about my chances.”

Other qualifiers in the Boys Division were Andrew Perez of Oxnard, Calif., with a 2-under-par 70. Ji Park of Fullerton, Calif., fired a 1-over-par 73. With 2-over-par 74s were Alexander Choi of Beverly Hills, Calif., Glen Scher of Agoura Hills, Calif., and Daniel Lee of Valencia, Calif. John Huh of Montrose, Calif. qualified with a 3-over-par 75 while Chris Crownover of Pleasanton, Calif., Allen Kelley of Veneta, Ore., Jay Lim of Stevenson Ranch, Calif., Rak Cho of Torrance, Calif., Thomas Moore of Huntington Beach, Calif., and David Lee of Bradenton, Fla., all fired 4-over-par 76s.

Kummerfeld, who got off to a rocky start was able to recover and put together a stretch of quality golf, helping her earn medalist honors. She finished the day with an 11-over-par 82.

“This course is one of the toughest I've played,” Kummerfeld said. “I was able to keep the damage to a minimum. If I can tighten up my game, I believe I have a good shot this week as well.”

Other qualifiers in the Girls Division were Erynne Lee of Silverdale, Wash., Alice Kim of Diamond Dar, Calif., Janelle Song of Oxnard, Calif., Katia Joo of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., and Michele Chun of Ontario, Calif.
