BRANNAN ATOP LEADER BOARD AT TRUMP NATIONAL GOLF CLUB
Yang holds 10-stroke-lead heading into final round

BEDMINSTER, N.J.- Consecutive birdies on the last two holes helped Sean Brannan of Hollidaysburg, Pa., secure a 4-stroke lead in the Boys Division heading into the final round of the Fidelity Investments Junior at Trump National Thursday. His 1-under-par 71 was the only sub-par round of the day. In the Girls Division, Glory Yang of Murrieta, Calif., carded a 73-76-149 tournament total to take a 10-stroke lead.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Fidelity Investments Junior at Trump National is a 54-hole stroke-play competition featuring 84 boys and girls from 19 states. This is the first time Trump National Golf Club is hosting an AJGA event. The par-72 course is playing at 6,830 for the Boys Division (Girls Division is playing at 5,858 yards).

Brannan, 16, hit 14 greens and 9 fairways in regulation, on his way to carding three birdies on the day.

β€œOn No. 17, I hit a 9-iron to 20 feet from the flagstick and made the putt,” Brannan said.

Brannan, who placed second at last week's Smithfield Junior Championship, has never won an AJGA event and plans to continue his solid play in order to claim his first victory.

β€œI am going to keep playing my game,” Brannan said. β€œThis is a long way from over.”

Samuel Ryder of Rosemont, Pa., trails Brannan by four strokes with a 149, while Spencer Cole of Greer, S.C., is in third with a tournament total 150. Thomas McCarthy of Tolland, Conn., stands in fourth with a two-day total of 151 and Chris Rockwell of Owings Mills, Md., is in fifth with a 152 heading into the final round.

In the Girls Division, Yang hit 10 greens, fired four birdies and stuck three approach shots to less than 10 feet.

β€œI hit two solid shots on No.1 then stuck it to six feet from the flagstick and made the birdie putt,” Yang said. β€œMy best putt of the day was on No. 5 when I made a 20-foot putt downhill and to the left for birdie.”

Yang has not won a tournament since the 2004 I.R.I. Golf Group Oakridge Junior and plans to stay focused in the final round.

β€œI am going to focus on every single shot and not worry about my previous shots,” Yang said. β€œI will never be perfect, but I am going to do my best.”

Following Yang in the Girls Division is Meredith Kotowski of Marion, Mass., with a tournament total 159 and Sarah Brown of Stewartsville, N.J., with a 160.
