MEYERS LEADS BOYS DIVISION AFTER FIRST-ROUND PLAY
Do looks to claim second title at Crestview Country Club

WICHITA, Kan. â€” Cameron Meyers, 17, of Edmond, Okla., finished the first round of the Rand Graphics-Wildcat Golf Wichita Junior Championship with a 6-under-par 66. Brianna Do, 16, of Lakewood, Calif., leads the Girls Division at the conclusion of first-round play after recording a 3-under-par 69. Do is the defending champion of the Rand Graphics-Wildcat Golf Wichita Junior Championship after winning in 2005.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Rand Graphics-Wildcat Golf Wichita Junior Championship is a 54-hole stroke play event held at the Crestview Country Club-North Course in Wichita, Kan. The tournament features 63 boys and 21 girls â€” ages 12-18 â€” from 15 states including five Rolex Junior All-Americans and defending champions Do and Kevin Tway of Edmond, Okla.

Meyers carded seven birdies on the 18 holes of play with five of those on the back nine of the North Course. Meyers said coming into the tournament he just wanted to play well, have some pars and hope for the best.

“Coming into the tournament, I wanted to play three solid rounds and place in the top five,” Meyers said. “I would have been happy with even-par on this course but now my goal is to win.”

Rounding out the top five in the Boys Division are Scott Langley of Ballwin, Mo., who is in second with a 5-under-par 67. William Kropp of Edmond, Okla., finished the day at 3-under-par 69. Tway, also of Edmond, Okla., and Austin Quinten of Sand Springs, Okla., are both tied for fourth place with 70s.

Do carded three birdies and said putting is what aided her game.

“I was playing really good, hitting the ball close and the putts were just dropping for me,” Do said.

Do will look to continue her success into the second round of play Thursday and said her main focus is on the back nine where she struggled with a few holes.

“I'm going to work on my short game and try to focus on the back nine tomorrow because it gave me a little bit of trouble today,” Do said.

Emily Johnson of Warsaw, Ind., is alone in second place after finishing with a 1-under-par 71. Christine Song of Fullerton, Calif., carded an even-par 72 to round out the Girls Division's top three.
