MEDICUS PRESEASON JUNIOR AT NORMAN

TWO PLAYERS TIED AT ONE-UNDER-PAR AFTER FIRST ROUND
Stafford aces 145-yard No. 11

NORMAN, Okla. — Battling 18 mile per hour winds at the Belmar Golf Course, Joe Doramus of Little Rock, Ark., and Jordan Wynn of Norman, Okla., each shot a one-under-par 69 to lead the field at the Medicus Preseason Junior at Norman.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Medicus Preseason Junior at Norman is being held at the Belmar Golf Club in Oklahoma. The par-70 course is set up at 6,357 yards for the Boys Division, which consists of 84 players from 16 states and Canada. There are 21 residents from the state of Oklahoma.

Doramus, who started play on No. 10, shot a one-under-par 33 on his first nine holes, followed by an even back-nine. Doramus had three birdies, two of which were on par-3 holes, and one double-bogey in his first AJGA event.

“I was feeling good today — everything was just coming together for me,” said Doramus. “I knew I had been practicing well and I had a lot of confidence coming into today's round.”

Wynn carded two birdies and one bogey in his first AJGA tournament, shooting an even 36 on the front-nine and a one-under-par 33 on the back. Wynn birdied No. 10, a 315-yard, par-4 and the par-3 17th.

“The course played tough, but not as tough as it can,” said Wynn, who earned the local course exemption to play in the event. “I played solid all day, and I couldn't have asked to make any more putts.”

Britt Ritter of Ardmore, Okla., is currently second with a 37-33 — 70, followed closely by three players tied at 71, including Dillon Rust of Edmond, Okla., (34-37), Adam Sturlese of Lafayette, La., (38-33) and Benjamin Bauch of Trabuco Canyon, Calif., (37-34)

After paring his first hole of the day, Trevor Stafford, of Edmond, Okla., aced No. 11, a 145-yard, par-3, earning his first ever hole-in-one.

“The shot made me more confident,” said Stafford. “From then on I knew I had to stay calm and continue with my normal routine. I just needed my swing and my talent to take over after that.”

The American Junior Golf Association is a 501c(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. The largest Association of its kind, the AJGA has a junior membership (boys and girls ages 12-18) of approximately 5,000 junior golfers from 50 states and 30 countries.

Titleist, the AJGA's National Sponsor, has been the catalyst and driving force behind the Association's success since 1989. Rolex Watch USA, which enters its third decade of support, became the inaugural AJGA Premier Partner in 2004.

AJGA alumni have risen to the top of amateur, collegiate and professional golf. More than 200 former AJGA juniors currently play on the PGA and LPGA Tours and have compiled more than 280 wins. AJGA alumni include Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, Davis Love III, Mike Weir, Charles Howell III, Jim Furyk, Dottie Pepper, Grace Park, Cristie Kerr and Beth Bauer.

Final round tee times will be Sunday from 7:30 — 9:27 a.m. off the Nos. 1 and 10 tees. The awards ceremony will follow at approximately 2 p.m. at the Belmar Golf Club.
