ANDREWS EARNS MEDALIST HONORS AT SRIXON QUALIFIER
Twenty boys and girls earn entry to Hargray Junior Classic
BLUFFTON, S.C. -After firing the day's only score in the 60s with a 69, Chad Andrews of Cairo, Ga., took medalist honors in the Boys Division Monday during the Srixon Qualifier for the Hargray Junior Classic. There was a three-way tie for medalist honors in the Girls Division with Alexandra Bodemann of Palm City Fla., Samantha Holt of Pensacola, Fla., and Hunter Ross of Manakin-Sabot, Va. all carding 2-over-par 74s.
The American Junior Golf Association conducted the Srixon Qualifier for the Hargray Junior Classic at the Hampton Hall Club. Fifteen boys and five girls qualified for the 84-player tournament that begins Wednesday, July 13.
Starting the day on No. 3, Andrews, 16, birdied his first hole and made an eagle on No. 9 to give him a 2-under-par 34 on the front nine. During the qualifier, Andrews carded three birdies en route to a 3-under-par 69.
“My driver was working real well and I was pretty consistent the whole day,” Andrews said. “I hit 16 greens in regulation, but struggled a little with my putting which sent me into some predicaments.”
Also qualifying in the Boys Division are Ramsay Quinn of Wilmington, N.C.; Philip Breeding of Morristown, Tenn.; Brett Emmers of Wilson, N.C.; Mike Harman of Windermere, Fla.; Adam Dolezal of Lake Forest, Ill.; Brandon Bradosky of Anderson, S.C.; Justin Lee of Tarzana, Calif.; Billy Shida of Duluth, Ga.; Rob Barrow of Cary, N.C.; Joseph Yoo of Orange Park, Fla.; Devin Spies of Sarasota, Fla.; and Joseph Kastelic of Newton, N.C. Troy Byun of Lake Mary, Fla., and Nic Neinken of Marietta, Ga., both qualified via a sudden-death playoff.
Chase Foy of Columbus, Ohio; Tripp McAllister of Lake City, S.C.; and Alex Kang of Hickory, N.C., all earned a tournament exemption in lieu of playing in the Hargray Junior Classic.
In the Girls Division, Bodemann, 16, who started the day off of No. 17, birdied the first hole, setting the tone for the rest of the day.
“I hit the ball really well all day,” Bodemann said. “Putting was my weakness today, but luckily I was hitting my fairways and greens.”
Holt, who also took medalist honors at the Dunlop Carolina Junior qualifier, was even-par on the front side carding two birdies.
“Those birdies really helped me out,” Holt said. “My game was good altogether, usually it's either my putting or my drives, but everything clicked today.”
Fifteen-year-old Ross carded 14 pars on the day en route to a three-way tie for first place.
“I played consistently, hitting the greens and making my putts when needed,” Ross said. “I played par golf all day.”
Also qualifying in the Girls Division are Ashley Shinn of Gainesville, Fla., and Nina Yoo of Duluth, Ga.
