AJGA LAS VEGAS FOUNDERS' LEGACY
JUNIOR
The Legacy Golf Club
Henderson, Nevada
June 18-21, 2001
TWO TIED FOR LEAD ATOP EACH DIVISION
Ryan Keeney, Daniel Summerhays, Lisa Ferrero and
Christine Fernandez claim respective division leads
HENDERSON, Nev. - Ryan Keeney of Redmond, Wash.,
shot a 4-under-par 68 and Daniel Summerhays of Farmington,
Utah, fired a 3-under-par 69 to share the second-round
Boys Division lead at 140. In the Girls Division, Lisa
Ferrero of Lodi, Calif., maintained her hold on the
division lead while Christine Fernandez of Henderson,
Nev., carded a girls-low 3-under-par 69 to surge into
a tie for the lead at 143 at the AJGA Las Vegas Founders'
Legacy Junior.
The tournament, conducted by the American Junior Golf
Association, is being held at The Legacy Golf Club in
Henderson, Nev. The 12th annual AJGA Las Vegas Founders'
Legacy Junior hosts eighty-four of the nation's top
juniors, ages 13-18, representing 11 states and England.
The 54-hole event also includes ten juniors from Nevada
and 11 Polo Golf Junior All-Americans.
Keeney's 72-68--140 will give him his first appearance
in an AJGA final-round leader group.
"I was putting myself in good positions today
and I am hitting the ball really well right now,"
said Keeney. "I just need to keep on playing the
way I am and everything should work out."
Summerhays attributed his 71-69--140 to his game plan
of hitting fairways and greens.
"When I stick to my game plan, I can go for birdies
or at least cozy-up the putts for easy pars," Summerhays
said of his second consecutive round under par.
Jesse Mueller of Mesa, Ariz., and Pat Moore of Phoenix,
Ariz., at 141 and Drew Scott of Henderson, Nev., Clay
Ogden of West Point, Utah, and Steven Crossley of Las
Vegas, Nev., at 142 round out the boys top five.
Ferrero, the Girls Division round-one leader, shot
an even par 72 for a 71-72--143 tournament total.
"I'm staying consistent on every hole, but it
could have been a lot better," Ferrero said. "If
I can only make my short putts than I'll be in the hunt
come tomorrow."
Fernandez's 69 took her from three strokes back after
the first round to co-leader at 74-69--143.
"There are a couple things I need to work on,"
Fernandez said. "But I am going to play my game
and concentrate on what I'm doing."
Lani Elston of Spokane, Wash., and Young Pak of Cerritos,
Calif., share third place in the Girls Division at 144.
Final-round action begins tomorrow with tee times running
from 7-8:57 a.m. at The Legacy Golf Club.
