HARLINGTEN SEIZES AJGA LEAD WITH 1-UNDER AT DIABLO GRANDE

PATTERSON, Calif. - Only one player stayed below par during the windy first round of the AJGA Preseason Junior at Diablo Grande. Seann Harlingten of Scottsdale, Ariz., holds a one-shot lead after 18 holes on the Legends West Course at Diablo Grande Resort in Patterson, Calif.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the two-day stroke play event features 84 golfers, ages 13-18, from 14 states.

Harlingten carded four birdies en route to his 1-under-par 71, achieving his goal heading into the event.

"I wanted to break 75 everyday," Harlingten said. "I thought that would be a good score because it's really windy."

Players were challenged by the wind all day, which gusted throughout the morning and afternoon. As a result, Harlingten was the only player managing to shoot below par.

Last year, Harlingten won five straight tournaments at the regional and national level. In Sunday's final round, he will look to win another one. To do so, he will need to stave off several close challengers.

Mick Baker of Danville, Calif., is one shot off the pace after firing an even-par 72. Ryan Qualle of Turlock, Calif., is two strokes back at 73.

Tied for fourth at 74 are Michael Wilson of Pacific Grove, Calif., Bobby Nyberg of El Dorado Hills, Calif., Edward McGlasson of Orange, Calif., and Lenny Park of Rowland Heights, Calif.

The final round of the AJGA Preseason Junior at Diablo Grande begins Sunday, March 11, at 7:30 a.m. on the Legends West Course at Diablo Grande Resort.
