BUICK JUNIOR OPEN PRESENTED BY GOLFWEEK QUALIFIER CANCELLED


LINDEN, Mich. – The Buick Junior Open presented by Golfweek Qualifier was cancelled due to inclement weather on July 18 at the Spring Meadows Country Club in Linden, Mich.  After a two and half hour rain delay the tournament committee decided to cancel play and entrants were determined by their Performance Based Entry status.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Buick Junior Open presented by Golfweek is a 54-hole stroke play tournament to be held at Spring Meadows Country Club. Ninety-nine junior golfers from 16 states, including 38 Michigan natives will participate in the event.

Qualifying for the tournament via Performance Based Entry status for the Boys Division were Clark Klaasen of Grand Rapids, Mich., David Miller of Chillicothe, Ohio, Thomas Buran of Scottsdale, Ariz., Billy McKay of Grand Blanc, Mich., Ravi Patel of Naperville, Ill., and Frank McAuliffe of Ann Arbor, Mich.  Also qualifying were Joshua Won of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., David Meehan of Rockford, Ill., Mike Teskoski of Lake Forest, Ill., Mark Martin of Amherstburg, Ontario, Brett Common of Chelsea, Mich., Drew Virkus of Scotts, Mich., and Justin Van Vleck of Ann Arbor, Mich.

Qualifying for the Girls Division via Performance Based Entry status were Molly Aronsson of Shelburne, Vt., Lauren May of St. Charles, Ill., Kristen Becker of Columbus, Ohio, and Anne Ormson of Granger, Ind.

The first round of the Buick Junior Open presented by Golfweek will begin on Tuesday at 7 a.m., off the first tee.

The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf.  The AJGA has a membership (boys and girls ages 12-18) of approximately 5,000 junior golfers from 50 states and 30 foreign countries.

Its goal is to give top-flight golf opportunities to young golfers regardless of financial resources. What is Leadership Links?

Leadership Links is a new program whereby the AJGA is able to further its mission to help develop young men and women by teaching charitable giving skills and service-oriented practices at an early age. This program gives juniors all the tools necessary to donate their time, talent and resources to local charities and the AJGA youth development programs.
