CANADIAN JUNIOR AHN WINS MEDALIST HONORS AT PARK MEADOWS

Nine golfers round out field for the AJGA Glenwild Junior

PARK CITY, Utah— Peter Ahn drove all the way from Victoria, British Columbia, to shoot a 4-under-par 68 at the AJGA Glenwild Junior Qualifier, held Sunday at Park Meadows Country Club. The 20-hour drive with his dad was worth it, said Ahn, who earned a place in this week’s tournament field.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the AJGA Glenwild Junior will feature 84 players from 14 states and Canada, including eight Utah natives. The event, which is being played for the first time, is a 54-hole, stroke play tournament that is being held at Glenwild Golf Club & Spa and will begin on Tuesday.

Ahn, 17, made birdie on Nos. 2, 13, 15 and 16 and said he was able to play well because he was relaxed on the course.

“My short game was really great,” he said. “I shot 35 on the front and 33 on the back, so basically everything was working great for me.”

This will mark Ahn’s second AJGA tournament.

Joining Ahn is Jon Krane of Sherman Oaks, Calif., who shot an even-par 72. Krane said he had the most difficulty judging the yardage with the high altitude of the mountain course.

“I took 10 yards off my aim, then tried to aim off the green so the wind could let it come back,” he said.

Krane, 17, birdied the first hole and had a good par save on No. 1. He was 40 yards off the green and was able to get up and down for par.

Nick Poper of Lakewood, Calif., Estanislao Guerrero of San Diego, Calif., Andrew Ok of Granada Hills, Calif., Joel Dahmen of Clarkston, Wash., Josh Porter of Scottsdale, Ariz, Richard Pawlasek of Las Vegas, and Kevin Tucker of Kennewick, Wash., also qualified and will round out the tournament field.

First-round tee times will run from noon - 1:57 p.m., Tuesday at Glenwild Golf Club & Spa.
