Three things for the second round at #AJGAThunderbird

By Tony McDaniel, Communications Staff

  • The race is close at the top of both divisions. There is a two-way tie in the Girls Division. Alyaa Abdughany of Newport Beach, California and Muni He, of Rancho Santa Fe, California, both shot 2-under-par 70 in the opening round. In the Boys Division Austin Eckroat, of Edmond, Oklahoma, Norman Xiong of Canyon Lake, California, and Hidetoshi Yoshihara, of Irvine, California, all tied for the lead with first-round scores of 4-under-par 68. The leader group in the Girls Division tees off at 8:45 a.m. off of No. 1, while the Boys Division leaders tee off at 9:15 a.m. off No. 1.

  • One local player, Michael Feagles, of Scottsdale, Arizona, is in the hunt for his first ever AJGA victory. He shot a 3-under-par 69 and is tied for fourth. Feagles has finished in the top-10 of an AJGA event five times. His best finish was in 2015 when he was second at the Winn Grips Heather Farr Classic hosted by Longbow Golf Club.

  • The Boys Division saw great scores coming in throughout the day; 16 players finished at even or better in the first round. If conditions remain great there could be even more great scores in the second round.
