If you were a 16-year-old playing in a Tour event in your hometown this weekend, chances are, things turned out pretty well for you.
While Jordan Spieth was doing his thing in Dallas, Grayson Murray became the second-youngest player to make a cut on the Nationwide Tour in his hometown of Raleigh, N.C.
Playing at The Rex Hospital Open, the high school sophomore was in danger of missing the cut after an opening-round 2-over-par 73. His second round was only slightly better, but a three-putt forced him to sharpen his focus and play aggressively.
"When I three-putted on 11 I was disgusted with myself," Murray said. "I told my caddie I was going to birdie out. I was two short of that."
After that jolting three-putt, Murray caught fire, making birdie on five of his last seven holes to close with a 5-under-par 66 and make the cut on the number.
"I knew I could do it starting the day, even though I was 2-over, Murray said after his second round. "I was still confident with my game. Luckily, I played well."
Following a 1-over-par 72 on Saturday, weather forced the event to end at 54 holes, leaving Murray tied for 55th at 2-under-par.
