If you were a 16-year-old playing in a Tour event in your hometown this weekend, chances are, things turned out pretty well for you.

While Jordan Spieth was doing his thing in Dallas, Grayson Murray became the second-youngest player to make a cut on the Nationwide Tour in his hometown of Raleigh, N.C.

Playing at The Rex Hospital Open, the high school sophomore was in danger of missing the cut after an opening-round 2-over-par 73. His second round was only slightly better, but a three-putt forced him to sharpen his focus and play aggressively.

"When I three-putted on 11 I was disgusted with myself," Murray said. "I told my caddie I was going to birdie out. I was two short of that."

After that jolting three-putt, Murray caught fire, making birdie on five of his last seven holes to close with a 5-under-par 66 and make the cut on the number.

"I knew I could do it starting the day, even though I was 2-over, Murray said after his second round. "I was still confident with my game. Luckily, I played well."

Following a 1-over-par 72 on Saturday, weather forced the event to end at 54 holes, leaving Murray tied for 55th at 2-under-par.

While Murray might not have been on everyone's radar before the weekend, his junior golf results show that he has game. With one AJGA victory at the Sta-Green Junior All-Star Championship and three runner-up finishes in the past three years, Murray has put together a strong junior golf resume, ascending to No. 53 in the Polo Golf Rankings. And with two more years until high school graduation, his star is clearly on the rise.
