The American Junior Golf Association will make its first-ever trip to Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, January 14-17, for the Puerto Rico Junior Open. The tournament will be held on the Championship Course at Trump International Golf Club, and the Boys Division champion will earn a sponsor’s exemption into the PGA TOUR’s 2011 Puerto Rico Open presented by seepuertorico.com , giving him the chance to test his game on the professional level.

The Puerto Rico Tourism Company, title sponsor of the PGA TOUR’s Puerto Rico Open presented by seepuertorico.com, is pleased to sponsor the event and looks forward to welcoming the very best junior golfers while they “Discover why Puerto Rico does it better!”

The Puerto Rico Golf Association, a non-for profit organization founded in 1954 as the governing body of amateur golf, also played an integral role in making this new international event possible.

“We are excited to host some of the world’s top junior golfers in Puerto Rico,” said Sidney Wolf, president of the Puerto Rico Golf Association. “It is a great opportunity for us to grow the game here and will allow the junior players to be challenged on our great island.”

This tournament will mark the AJGA’s first event in Puerto Rico.  In 2010, the Association offered playing opportunities in 32 states and Mexico.

“The AJGA is committed to providing new and exciting opportunities for our membership,” said Jason Ross, vice president of tournament development. “With the support of the Puerto Rico Golf Association and Puerto Rico Tourism Company, we are able to further expand our tournament schedule to include another PGA TOUR-caliber course. The AJGA is excited to begin 2011 with the Puerto Rico Junior Open.”

Designed by PGA Professional Tom Kite, Trump International Golf Club is made up of two 18-hole championship courses - the Championship and the International. Host to the PGA TOUR’ s Puerto Rico Open presented by seepuertorico.com, the Championship Course extends along the Atlantic Ocean and offers views of the Caribbean National Rainforest of El Yunque.

The PGA TOUR selected Trump International Golf Club as one of the top two "Best On-Site Presentations,” and the Championship Course was ranked as the 19th “Best Tour Course You Can Play” by Golfweek in 2010.
