Old and new faces

In 2014 Kaitlyn Papp of Austin, Texas, and Donnie Trosper of Canton, Michigan, took home the champion trophies. Trosper was a senior and has moved on to play college golf at the University of Central Florida, but Papp is returning and coming off another big win at the AJGA Girls Championship at the beginning of September.

Of the four boys in the top 10 of the Polo Golf Rankings, only Spencer Soosman (No. 6) has played in The PING Invitational. The Girls Division features a more experienced range of players. Of the six who are ranked in the top 10, five have played in The PING Invitational. The other five have a combined 10 appearances, including Andrea Lee who will be playing in her fifth PING Invitational.

United States PING Junior Solheim Cup team

Also in the field are six of the 12 members of the U.S. PING Junior Solheim Cup team. Sierra Brooks, Hailee Cooper, Kristen Gillman, Nelly Korda, Andrea Lee and Kaitlyn Papp helped the United States claim a 13-11 victory in September over their European competitors. The team was led by Brooks who posted a 3-0 record enroute to helping the U.S. retain the Cup for the fourth-straight year.

Sooner State showdown

This year’s tournament field features players committed to both Oklahoma State and Oklahoma. Austin Eckroat will be joining the Cowboys in 2017. The tournament is played on the home course for Oklahoma State. This week Eckroat will be facing a field which includes 2017 grad Garett Reband who is committed to play college golf at the University of Oklahoma.

In total, 38 players have committed to play college golf.
