AJGA alumna Danielle Downey was killed in a single-car accident on Thursday, Jan. 30, in Montgomery, Ala.

Downey, 33, director of golf operations for Auburn University, also played golf for the Tigers from 1999-2003 where she earned All-America honors during three of her four seasons. She was honored as an All-SEC athlete during all four years and was the 2000 SEC Tournament champion.

As an AJGA junior, Downey was twice named a Rolex Junior All-American and won three times, in back-to-back AJGA Tucker Anthony (1997, 1998) events and at the 1998 Buick Junior Open.

“Danielle would give you the shirt off her back,” said Auburn alumna Nicole Hage in a feature column published Jan. 31 on Golfweek.com. “And if she didn’t have a shirt, she’d spend all day finding one for you.”
