The tournament schedule for the AJGA's winter/spring season includes 25 tournaments between Martin Luther King Day and the first week of June. While many of the same venues from 2012 will return for another round, a handful of new courses will play host to AJGA tournaments in 2013. Here is a glimpse of what is in store:

IMG Academy Preseason Series

Twelve events provide opportunities for new AJGA members looking to get their first shot at AJGA competition. The IMG Academy Preseason Series offers a chance for AJGA members to earn Performance Stars, which can lead to additional playing opportunities. The series will open with the Preseason Junior at Vinoy at Vinoy Golf Club in St. Petersburg, Fla., Feb. 15-18. The Preseason Junior at Nemacolin will return to the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort – Links Course, May 31 – June 2, to close the series. In the 2012 season, Jacob Solomon of Dublin, Calif., began with a T10 showing at the Preseason Junior at Mira Vista, and then tied an AJGA boys’ record by winning three consecutive AJGA tournaments.

Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy Junior All-Star Series

Two events are scheduled in the spring for 12- to 15-year-old AJGA members, as part of the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy Junior All-Star Series. These tournaments provide opportunities for the AJGA's younger players to compete against their peers as precursor to AJGA Open tournaments. Success in the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy Junior All-Star Series has foreshadowed future success for many players, such as Jordan Spieth and Vicky Hurst, who went on to receive Rolex Junior Player of the Year honors.

Open Tournaments

Nine AJGA Open events will highlight the spring schedule, beginning with the Puerto Rico Junior Open at Trump International Golf Club – Championship Course, Jan. 18-21. The bulk of the AJGA's annual schedule consists of Open tournaments, providing opportunities for all eligible boys and girls, ages 12-18, to compete. The AJGA's three Open events over Easter weekend have been staples on the schedule for more than a decade. Combined with the three TaylorMade-adidas Golf Qualifiers, as well as the TaylorMade-adidas Golf Junior All-Star at Chateau Elan, more than 900 playing opportunities are available that weekend. Also returning to the schedule is the Under Armour® / Hunter Mahan Championship, which returns to TPC Craig Ranch for the first time since 2010.

Invitationals

In 2013, the ANNIKA Invitational will jumpstart the season Jan. 16-21, followed by the HP Boys Championship at Carlton Woods, which will celebrate its 28th year, Feb. 15-18. For players who ascended the Polo Golf Rankings in 2012, this pair of Invitationals provides premier opportunities to kick-off the new year. As the AJGA transitions from spring to summer, the Thunderbird International Junior will once again be contested over Memorial Day weekend at Grayhawk Golf Club's Raptor Course.
