Two former AJGA players notch amateur victories

Peter Williamson, a recent Dartmouth graduate, defeated Clemson golfer Thomas Bradshaw, 4 and 3, to win the North & South Amateur Championship conducted on Pinehurst No. 2 in Pinehurst, N.C. Bogey-free for 15 holes, Williamson birdied No. 13 to go 4-up. He secured the title when he halved No. 15 with a short putt for par.

In his first year at Dartmouth, Williamson was named Ivy League Rookie and Player of the year, as well as a member of the PING All-Region team. He went on to earn 20 top-10 finishes including three individual wins. His collegiate career was highlighted by a victory at the Ivy League Championship, where he became the seventh golfer to win multiple individual Ivy League titles.

The New Hampshire-native competed in two AJGA events, in addition to an impressive high school career where he led the Hanover High School golf team to four consecutive state championships. Williamson also claimed the individual state title in his senior year.

Kevin Penner, a rising-senior at UNLV, prevailed in a three-way playoff to win the Sahalee Players Championship at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Wash. Penner birdied the first playoff hole to capture the title over recent Washington graduate and AJGA alumnus Chris Williams, and Ben Geyer, a senior at St. Mary’s.

A member of the Rebels golf team, Penner has recorded nine top-20 finishes. He earned honoroable mention All-America honors following his junior season, and won the individual title at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate.

As an AJGA player, he finished top 15 in three events, including a T9 finish at the 2007 Bass Pro Shops/Payne Stewart Junior Championship. Penner graduated in 2009 from Eastlake High School in Sammamish, Wash., where he was the 4A state high school champion in 2007 and 2009.
