While FedEx Cup winner Henrik Stenson of Sweden took the title at the TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola in a 30-player field which included 22 AJGA alumni, it was AJGA alumnus Jordan Spieth who dominated conversation and fan following as the 20-year-old made a back-nine charge, ultimately tying for second and capping an incredible rookie season.

Beginning the final round seven shots behind Stenson, Spieth cut Stenson’s lead to one after firing eight birdies on the round. A bogey on No. 17 and par on the final hole gave Spieth a T2 finish at 10-under-par 270, his ninth top-10 finish in 23 starts. Spieth earned his first professional victory at the John Deere Classic in July. He was recently named a 2013 Presidents Cup captain’s pick, and will compete for the U.S., October 1-6.

The Dallas native began his junior career with a bang, winning his first AJGA tournament, the 2007 Junior All-Star at Walnut Creek, the first of five during his junior career. Spieth’s career spanned from 2007 to 2011, where he collected 22 top-five finishes in national junior competition. Alongside a victory at the 2011 HP Boys Championship at Carlton Woods and two titles at The PING Invitational (2008, ’10), Spieth was named a three-time Rolex Junior All-American and the Rolex Junior Player of the Year  in 2009.

Spieth received his first amateur exemption in 2010 for the HP Byron Nelson Classic making him the first player since 1995 to receive an amateur exemption into the event. Spieth finished his first PGA TOUR start in the top 20 at T16.

In 2011, Spieth closed his impressive junior career with a second win the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, having previously won in 2009. He became only the second player to earn two titles at the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship behind Tiger Woods (1991-92).

Spieth played his college career at the University of Texas where he helped the Longhorns win the 2012 NCAA Men’s Division I Golf National Championship, before turning professional in December 2012.
