AJGA alumnus Webb Simpson wins U.S. Open

Webb Simpson, who played in the fourth-to-last group Sunday at The Olympic Club, started the day T8 along with fellow AJGA alumnus Jason Dufner, and current AJGA player Beau Hossler.

Simpson birdied Nos. 6, 7, 8 and 10 to get within one stroke of leader Jim Furyk. He parred the remaining eight holes to post his second 2-under-par 68 round of the tournament, and a final score of 1-over-par 281.

Simpson, who turned pro in 2008, won the Deutsche Bank Championship and the Wyndham Championship in 2011, finishing second in the FedEx Cup race. Prior to his win at the U.S. Open, his best finish of the 2012 season was T3 at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions in January.

During his exceptional AJGA career, Simpson was a four-time Rolex Junior All-America First Team honoree. His biggest win came at the 2001 Rolex Tournament of Champions, and he totaled 16 top-10 finishes during his AJGA career. Simpson represented the East Team at the 2001, 2002, and 2004 Wyndham Cup.

Following his AJGA career, Simpson played golf at Wake Forest. During his time there he was named 2005 ACC Freshman of the Year, 2008 ACC Player of the Year and represented the United States at the 2006 World Amateur Team Championship.

Currently, Simpson is the sponsor and host of the AJGA's Webb Simpson Junior Championship, to be played August 13-16 at Bryan Park Golf & Conference Center in Browns Summit, N.C.
