The 2012 NCAA Mens Golf Championships came to a dramatic
close on Sunday after University of Texas senior and AJGA alum Dylan Frittelli
drained a 25-foot putt on No. 18 at Riviera Country Club to clinch a 3-2 win
against the University of Alabama.
In addition to Frittelli, the Texas roster included AJGA
alumni Cody Gribble, Toni Hakula and Jordan Spieth. Alabama was entirely composed
of AJGA alumni including, Hunter Hamrick, Scott Strohmeyer, Justin Thomas, Cory
Whitsett and Bobby Wyatt.
Altogether, the players who competed in the NCAA Mens
Golf Championships have a combined AJGA record of 18 wins and 13 Rolex Junior
All-America honors. Spieth, who capped his AJGA career with a win at the 2011
HP Boys Championship at Carlton Woods, was also the 2009 Rolex Junior Player of
the year.
This is the third time Texas has won the NCAA
Championships. Texas previously won back-to-back in 1971 and 1972, with a team
that included PGA TOUR golfers and major championship winners, Ben Crenshaw and
Tom Kite.
