Three AJGA juniors claim amateur titles

Brooke Henderson
of Smiths Falls, Ontario, won the Royale Cup Canadian Women's Amateur Championship with a tournament total of 9-under-par-275. At 15-years-old, she became the Championship's youngest winner behind the 2012 champion, Ariya Jutanugarn of Bangkok, Thailand.

Since 2010, Henderson has compiled five top-10 finishes, including victories at the 2011 Genesis Junior at White Beeches and the 2012 Ravenwood Junior Championship.

Scott Scheffler of Dallas, won the 66th U.S. Junior Amateur Championship , defeating Davis Riley of Hattiesburg, Miss., 3 and 2. Scheffler became the fifth different player from Texas to win the event since Hunter Mahan in 1999, as well as Matthew Rosenfeld (2000), Cory Whitsett (2007) and Jordan Spieth (2009, 2011).

A two-time Rolex Junior All-American, Scheffler currently sits at No. 2 in the Polo Golf Rankings and has earned eight top-five AJGA finishes since 2008. He is a three-time Wyndham Cup West Team participant, compiling a 7-4-1 career record, 2011-2013. Scheffler has verbally committed to play for the University of Texas.

Gabriella Then of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., won the 2013 U.S. Girls' Junior Championship , defeating Lakareber Abe of Angleton, Texas, 2 and 1. With this win, Then earned a spot in the 2013 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship.

A two-time Rolex Junior All-American, Then has compiled 14 top-five finishes, including two victories at the 2011 Rolex Tournament of Champions and the 2009 Bass Pro Shops / Payne Stewart Junior Championship. She currently sits at No. 31 in the Polo Golf Rankings and is committed to play for the University of Southern California in the fall.

Ian Davis of Edmond, Okla., won the 2013 W.E. Cole Cotton States Invitational after he got  up-and-down from a bunker on the first playoff hole of match play against Preston Stanley of Katy, Texas.

Davis competed in two AJGA events in 2008 before competing at Oklahoma State. He posted a T11 showing at the Preseason Junior at Texarkana.

An Oklahoma State University rising senior, Davis earned eight top-20 finishes and won his first collegiate tournament in 2012 at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate. In 2013, he finished eighth at the NCAA Division I Championship in stroke play.

Mexico native Juan Pablo Hernandez won the 2013 Northern Amateur , defeating David Tepe in a three-hole playoff. Hernandez collected a total of 16 birdies, including one at the 18th hole to finish with a second-round total of 7-under-par 65, the low round of the tournament, and to take the 36-hole lead. Hernandez and Tepe both finished the tournament at 5-under-par 211.

A 2008 Rolex Junior All-American, Hernandez earned 12 top-10 AJGA finishes from 2005-2009, including a quarterfinals appearance at the 2008 Polo Golf Junior Classic, losing to Brinson Paolini of Virginia Beach, Va., 1-up.

A graduate of Arizona, Hernandez helped Wildcats earn a berth in the NCAA Championship during his sophomore season. As a junior, he led the team in stroke average at 72.56 and compiled four top-10 finishes.

Tyler Raber of El Macero, Calif., won the 2013 Pacific Coast Amateur after finishing with a tournament total of 8-under-par 272. Raber shot a tournament-record 7-under-par 63 in the opening round, only one shot off the course record.

Raber recorded four top-15 finishes in 2007, including a third-place finish at the CORE Realty Holdings Junior at Old Ranch.

A graduate of UC Davis, Raber led the Aggies in scoring with 72.3 average his senior year. He was a two-time All-Big West Conference selection. He captured his first collegiate tournament title at the 2009 Stockton Sports Commission Pacific Invitational and tied the school record with a second-round 9-under-par 63.  Raber earned five top-10 finishes in his four-year career with UC Davis.

PGA TOUR
A win at the RBC Canadian Open gave Brandt Snedeker his second title this season . His final-round 2-under-par 70 brought his tournament total to 16-under-par 272. The victory ties Snedeker with Rory McIlroy for the second most PGA TOUR victories since 2011 with five.

As a junior with the AJGA, Snedeker carded five top-20 finishes and earned Rolex Junior All-America honors in 1998.

Snedeker set several records for the men’s golf team at Vanderbilt University. He was the first Commodore to receive first-team All-America honors and he was also the first to qualify for NCAA Regional play. He was awarded the 2003 SEC Male Golfer of the Year title, finishing his collegiate career as a three-time All-SEC selection.

Kevin Tway
won his first Web.com Tour title by beating Spencer Levin in a one-hole playoff at the Albertsons Boise Open Presented by Kraft. Tway shot a 7-under-par 64 to force the playoff. He birdied the playoff hole to finish with a tournament total 23-under-par 261.

The two-time Rolex Junior All-American had two career AJGA wins from 2004-2007.

He went on to compete at Oklahoma State University where he recorded five individual victories, including three NCAA regional titles. Tway received four All-America honors, as well as three All Big-12 selections.
