In his PGA TOUR debut, Edward Figueroa of Naples, Fla., posted an even-par 72 in the first round of the Puerto Rico Open presented seepuertorico.com. Two back-nine birdies helped him to get to even par.

Having won the 2012 Puerto Rico Junior Open, Edward Figueroa of Naples, Fla., earned a PGA TOUR sponsor’s exemption and is making his TOUR debut this weekend at the Puerto Rico Open presented by seepuertorico.com. He will play with AJGA alums Will Claxton and Zack Miller during the first and second rounds at Trump International Golf Club.

In January, Figueroa closed with back-to-back birdies and turned a one-shot deficit into a one-shot victory over Jim Liu and Jorge Garcia to win the second-annual Puerto Rico Junior Open. A final-round 69 resulted in a 4-under-par 212 total and his second AJGA title.

“It means so much in so many ways because my family is from San Juan and we visited them every day this week,” the 18-year-old said of earning the sponsor's exemption. “It will be awesome for them to be able to come here and see me play.”

Currently No. 26 in the Polo Golf Rankings, Figueroa has signed a National Letter of Intent with Florida Gulf Coast University.

In 2011, Jason Roets became the first Puerto Rico Junior Open champion to compete on the sponsor’s exemption, and carded rounds of 76-71 in his PGA TOUR debut.
