Passing the Test

For PGA TOUR players, Q-School is the final threshold and toughest test on the road to securing their dream job in golf. For AJGA staffers, a similar test must be passed on the road to a career in the industry. This test is called Intern Recruiting Weekend.

From March 2-4, the AJGA will host 95 intern candidates for a weekend-long interview that includes team building exercises, as well as written and verbal tests. Some of the country’s best students studying journalism, communications and sport management, among others, will be in attendance, each vying for a spot on one of six traveling intern teams.

Now in its 11th year, Intern Recruiting Weekend is as much a learning experience as it is an interview. In 2012, speakers will include Bill Hughes, General Manager of TPC Sawgrass, Seth Silverstein, Director of Digital Consumer Marketing for Conde Nast Publications and Rob Jansen, Executive Director of the Wisconsin State Golf Association. All have special ties to the AJGA and will provide insights that will make an impact on everyone’s careers, candidates and full-time staff alike.

The backbone of the AJGA is its internship program. This mantra on the back of AJGA business cards says it best, and Intern Recruiting Weekend will prove again that it is an integral part of the AJGA internship.
