Winn Junior Cup Challenge announces field

Winn Grips will host the second annual Winn Junior Cup Challenge at Rio Secco Golf Club in Las Vegas, Jan. 7-8, 2012, where eight of the nation’s top junior golfers will compete with legendary swing coach Butch Harmon and LPGA Tour player Natalie Gulbis. The East versus West battle pairs the top two boys and girls from East of the Mississippi versus their counterparts from West of the Mississippi. The two-day championship will be decided by the number of accrued points.

The West squad, captained by Gulbis, is highlighted by local standout AJ McInerney (Henderson, Nev.), who won The PING Invitational in October. Thunderbird International Junior champion Brad Dalke (McKinney, Texas) will also compete along with four-time Rolex Junior All-American Alison Lee (Valencia, Calif.) and Rolex Tournament of Champions winner Gabriella Then (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.).

The East team will feature the 2011 Rolex Junior Player of the Year Cody Proveaux (Leesville, S.C.), and the No. 1 player in the Polo Golf Rankings, Shun Yat Hak (Lake Mary, Fla.). Joining them will be 2011 PING Invitational champion Jaye Marie Green (Boca Raton, Fla.), and 2011 Thunderbird International Junior victor Karen Chung (Livingston, N.J.).

The competition will begin with a nine-hole, two-person scramble on Saturday, Jan. 7. Saturday will also include nine holes of mixed foursome play and nine holes of fourball match play. Sunday, Jan. 8 will open with a closest-to-the-hole competition and finish with 18 holes of singles match play. The team that accumulates the most points over the two-day competition will be the champions and will be recognized at a 2 p.m. awards ceremony.
