In 2013, fourteen current AJGA players competed in U.S. Women’s Open Qualifier after a record 16 members competed at the U.S. Women’s Open Championship in 2012. Nine AJGA players qualified and six are alternates. A current AJGA player has never won the coveted championship trophy. Jessica Korda came the closest after finishing T19 in 2008. The 2013 U.S. Women’s Open Championship will be played at Sebonack Golf Club from June 24 – 30 in Southampton, N.Y.
This will be Shannon Aubert’s second U.S. Women’s Open. The 17-year-old from Reunion, Fla. Is No. 65 in the Polo Golf Rankings. Aubert will look to rebound after missing the cut in the 2012 U.S. Women’s Open Championship. She is a five-time Rolex Junior All-American with 17 top-five finishes, including a victory at the 2008 champion of the Preseason Junior at Rochester presented by Wegmans LPGA and Xerox Classic.
Casie Cathrea, the No. 18 player in the Polo Golf Rankings, qualified for her first U.S. Women’s Open Championship. The Livermore, Calif. native has two top-five finishes in AJGA events, including a T4 showing at the 2012 The PING Invitational. Cathrea has played in four U.S. Girls’ Junior Championships and finished T5 in 2012. This fall, Cathrea will take her talents to the Oklahoma State University women’s golf team.
After missing the cut in 2009 and 2010, Yueer Cindy Feng will compete in her third U.S Women’s Open Championship. The 17-year-old from China by way of Orlando has 10 AJGA titles and currently sits at No. 10 in the Polo Golf Rankings. Feng is a two-time Rolex Junior All-American.
Mariel Galdiano of Pearl City, Hawaii, returns to the U.S. Women’s Open Championship after missing the cut in 2011. Since joining the AJGA, Galdiano has four top-10 finishes including a T3 showing at the 2013 AJGA Junior at River Ridge.
Also competing in her first U.S. Women’s Open Championship is Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ontario. Henderson has claimed five top-10 finishes and two wins in her AJGA career. Her most recent victory came at the 2012 Ravenwood Junior Championship. The No. 36 player in the Polo Golf Rankings has also played in the 2010, 2011 and 2012 U.S. Girls’ Junior Championships.
Erica Herr of New Pope, Pa., is another new face to the 2013 U.S. Women’s Open Championship. The Wake Forest-verbal commit collected a win at the 2012 William Penn Junior Championship and has 11 top-10 finishes since she began her AJGA career in 2008.
