College Round-up

The Florida Gators ran away with the SunTrust Gator Invitational last weekend, winning by 18 shots over Ole Miss.

Billy Horschel and Toby Ragland of Florida, and Simon Ward of UCF all tied for medalist honors with three-round totals of 5-under-par 205. Derek Rende of Chattanooga, Tim McKenney, Tyson Alexander and Mu Hu of Florida, Jeff Dennis of North Florida, Sean Dale of Ole Miss, Blayne Barber of UCF, Drew Kittleson of Florida State, Sam Lyons of Coastal Carolina, and Sang Yi of LSU all finished in the top 10.

Ragland was also named Golfweek’s Men’s College Player of the Week.

Ji Hwan Park of the University of San Francisco won at the Rice Intercollegiate in Houston, Tuesday. His tournament total of 6-under-par 210 put him in first place ahead of Christopher Brown of Rice by three shots. Ben Moser of Houston, Patrick Kucich of Pacific, and Robert Karlsson of Liberty finished in the top five.

Cindy LaCrosse of Louisville won the Qdoba Invitational at Don Shula’s Golf Resort in Miami Lakes, Fla., Tuesday. She finished with a three-round total of 2-over-par 218, besting Iliska Verwey of Georgia State by two shots for her fourth collegiate victory.

Georgia State won the tournament over Tulane by nine strokes.

Sydney Cox of Oklahoma City University, Anna Scott and Cathrine Madsen of Georgia State, Lauren Doughtie of North Carolina State, Samantha Troyanovich and Linn Gustafsson of Tulane, Amy Eneroth of Washington State, Kelly Lynch of James Madison, and Laura Anderson of Louisville rounded out the top 10 spots.

Auburn was victorious Tuesday over LSU at the Central District Invitational in Parrish, Fla. Megan McChrystal of LSU finished in first place with a three-round total of 3-under-par 213. Candace Schepperle of Auburn finished one stroke behind in second. Amanda Blumenherst and Jennie Lee of Duke, Maude Aimee Leblanc of Purdue, and Valentine Derrey of TCU all finished in the top five.

Professional Round-up

Dustin Johnson won the rain-shortened AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am in Pebble Beach, Calif., last weekend, defeating Mike Weir by four shots.

Retief Goosen, Mark Calcavecchia, Bob Estes, Bill Lunde, Chris Stroud, D.J. Trahan, Kevin Chappell, Shigeki Maruyama, Mark Brooks, Kenny Perry and Sean O’Hair all finished in the top 10.
