Reeling 'Em In!

Hot air balloons, NASCAR racecars and speedboats are hardly what one thinks of when thinking about a junior golf tournament, but these features were exactly what made the 2007 Bass Pro Shops/Payne Stewart Junior Championship held at Rivercut Golf Course stand out. The event was so outstanding that organizers were awarded the American Junior Golf Association’s 2007 Newcomer of the Year Award.

As title sponsors, Bass Pro Shops and the Payne Stewart Family Foundation were dedicated to making the tournament as memorable as possible for all participants. A complimentary players’ banquet, arranged by Bass Pro Shops Brand Manager Andy Whaley, was held at the Bass Pro Shop in Springfield with 190 people attending. Players received a Bass Pro Shop gift bag that included a t-shirt, remote control car, chocolate and a $25 gift card. On the course, players were entertained by Bass Pro Shop castings games and were able to take a look at the company’s NASCAR car and three speedboats. Rivercut Golf Course Head Professional Rick Grayson rallied a group of dedicated volunteers who assisted during the event and his staff kept the course in pristine condition. The amenities and hospitality truly made the new event a standout on the AJGA schedule, one players will look forward to attending again in the coming years.

“It was a wonderful partnership to work with The Payne Stewart Foundation for this event,” said Andy Whaley, brand marketing manager for Bass Pro Shops. “We are very honored and excited to accept this award.”
