Dettlaff Does his Part for Junior Golf

Each year hundreds of junior golfers dream of one day joining the ranks of the PGA and LPGA tours. However, at the 2007 Junior PLAYERS Championships many of these players lived the dream due to the efforts of Billy Dettlaff, the American Junior Golf Association’s 2007 Golf Professional of the Year. Dettlaff’s selfless commitment and tireless efforts made the championship special for the players, families and staff in attendance.

The 2007 Junior PLAYERS Championship, held over Labor Day Weekend, marked Dettlaff’s first tournament with the AJGA. Dettlaff was integral in bringing the event to life and worked tirelessly to make it a duplicate of the PGA TOUR’s PLAYERS Championship. He arranged for the juniors to have access to the locker room and player dining, as well supplied caddies for all three rounds. Dettlaff had the course set up identical to the TOUR event as well, and coordinated a PGA TOUR media tutorial for the players and their families. In a survey of the event, 97 percent of players ranked the 2007 Junior PLAYERS Championship as the best junior tournament they ever participated in. This distinction is a direct result of Dettlaff’s passion, creativity and dedication.

“Having the AJGA join the PGA TOUR created something special,” said Dettlaff. “It is very meaningful to me.”
