Scissortail Junior Championship Debuts in Oklahoma Aug. 11-14

SemGroup, AJGA team up to bring another event to Oklahoma

BRASELTON, Ga. — SemGroup, L.P. will combine efforts with the American Junior Golf Association to host the Scissortail Junior Championship, the AJGA announced Wednesday. SemGroup is a midstream energy company based in Tulsa, Okla. The event will debut August 11 – 14, 2008, at a Tulsa-area course.

The Scissortail Junior Championship will feature 99 of the top junior golfers from across the country for a 54-hole competition. The tournament will be held at Emerald Falls Golf Club in Broken Arrow, Okla.

SemGroup has been an AJGA supporter since 2006 when it became a sponsor of The PING Invitational, which is held over Columbus Day Weekend at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla.

This will be the second of three tournaments the AJGA will conduct in the state of Oklahoma. The Aldila Junior at Oak Tree will be held June 16-19 at Oak Tree Country Club in Edmond and The PING Invitational will be Oct. 10-13.

"Professional golfers from Oklahoma, as well as our state’s collegiate programs, are part of golf’s impressive legacy. We are pleased Oklahoma now offers young men and women three opportunities to develop their games and position themselves to possibly earn college scholarships,” said Greg Wallace, SemGroup chief financial officer.

A Junior-Am Fundraising Tournament, similar to the PGA TOUR’s Pro-Am, will be held Monday, Aug. 11 at 8 a.m.

The first round of the Scissortail Junior Championship will take place Tuesday, Aug. 12, with the second round Wednesday, Aug. 13. The event will conclude with final-round action Thursday, Aug. 14.

“The AJGA is very excited about conducting a third tournament in Oklahoma,” said Jason Etzen, AJGA executive vice president of corporate partnerships. “SemGroup has been a great supporter of the AJGA and we are looking forward to working on a second tournament together.”
