Woodward Video, AJGA Team Up to Bring Event to West Virginia

The Woodward Video Greenbrier Junior to be held over Labor Day Weekend

Woodward Video, based in West Virginia, will sponsor a national junior golf tournament in West Virginia, the American Junior Golf Association announced Wednesday.

The Woodward Video Greenbrier Junior will be held Labor Day Weekend, Aug. 29-Sept. 1, 2008, on The Meadows Course at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.

The Greenbrier is no stranger to hosting championship golf. In 1979, the resort hosted the International Ryder Cup Matches and it was the site of the 1994 Solheim Cup.

“Woodward Video has been a supporter of junior golf in West Virginia for many years,” said Bryan Woodward. “Woodward Video is very excited to be a partner with The Greenbrier and the AJGA in bringing a national junior golf event to our state. This will allow junior golfers in West Virginia the opportunity to compete against top-ranked junior golfers from across the country. The Greenbrier will provide a memorable and world-class venue for the tournament. Woodward Video is eager to continue our relationship with The Greenbrier and the AJGA to promote junior golf in West Virginia.”

As the premier junior golf organization in the world dedicated to helping golfers ages 12-18 earn college golf scholarships, the AJGA will bring together 99 of the top boy and girl players from around the country for this 54-hole stroke play championship.

A Junior-Am Fundraising Tournament, similar to the PGA TOUR’s Pro-Am, will be held Friday, Aug. 29. Proceeds from the event will benefit the West Virginia Golf Association.

The first round of the Woodward Video Greenbrier Junior will take place Saturday, Aug. 30, with the second round Sunday, Aug. 31. The event will conclude with final-round action Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 1.
This will be the second tournament the AJGA has conducted in the state of West Virginia, with the first taking place in 2002 at the Pete Dye Golf Club.

“The AJGA is very excited about conducting another event in West Virginia,” said Jason Etzen, AJGA executive vice president of corporate partnerships. “Woodward Video is very supportive of junior golf and The Greenbrier will be a tremendous venue for the event.”
