Newsmakers: March 11, 2008

College Round-up

Vanderbilt junior Jon Curran won his first collegiate title last week at the Seminole Intercollegiate . He shot a 10-under-par 206 to lead the field by three shots. Auburn’s Jay Moseley finished alone in second with a 7-under-par 209. Tied for third with 6-under-par 210s were Kevin O’Connell of North Carolina and Zack Sucher of UAB. Florida State was victorious in the team competition.

The Southern Highlands Collegiate took place last week in Las Vegas and USC sophomore Rory Hie earned his second collegiate victory after shooting a 3-under-par 71-69-73–213. Hie finished the final round in a three-way tie with Georgia’s Hudson Swafford and Jonas Enander Hedin of Charlotte, but was able to clinch the victory on the first playoff hole. UNLV took home top team honors, led by Seung-Su Han who finished tied for 10th.

Michigan State jumped to the top of the leaderboard after senior Sara Brown earned her second straight individual title at the Texas A&M Mo-Morial Invitational with a 5-over-par 221. Teammate Aimee Neff finished tied for second at 13-over-par 229 with Denver’s Stephanie Sherlock.

Other AJGA Alumni in Men’s College Golf…

Cory Parkinson of Lipscomb University earned individual honors at The Grover Page Classic with a 4-under-par 140. Central Arkansas won the team title…Spencer Paschall shared medalist honors with UC-Riverside teammate Nick Paez last week at the Braveheard Classic, shooting a 4-over-par 220. Cal Poly took home top team honors…Memphis topped the leaderboard during the CSU Spring Kick Off Tournament with help from Ian Rochester, whose 9-under-par 204 tournament total was 12 shots better than the rest of the field…Willie Mack of Bethune-Cookman earned his second individual title in as many weeks at the Treasure Coast Men’s Classic with a 10-under-par 203. He also helped his team to the victory.

Other AJGA Alumni in Women’s College Golf…

Selanee Henderson of UC-Irvine finished the SJSU Spartan Invitational with a 2-over-par 218. California was the top team at the tournament…Notre Dame took home top honors during the Rio Verde Invitational last week led by So-Hyun Park and Katie Brophy, who finished first and second, respectively. Park shot a 4-under-par 212 tournament total and Brophy finished four shots behind with a 216.

Professional Round-up

Sean O'Hair won his second PGA TOUR title Sunday during the PODS Championship at Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club. O'Hair shot a final-round 69 to defeat Ryuji Imada, Troy Matteson, George McNeill, John Senden, Stewart Cink and Billy Mayfair by two shots.
