Newsmakers: February 25, 2008

Junior Round-up

Ayaka Kaneko of Honolulu, made the cut during the LPGA's Fields Open in Hawaii this weekend. The 17-year-old fired rounds of 70-72-71 for a 3-under par 213 tournament total. Kaneko will participate in her first AJGA event for the 2008 season at the AJGA Championship at Traditions over Easter Weekend.

College Round-up

Alabama was victorious at the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational last week at Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. Mark Harrell and Michael Thompson were the top finishers for Alabama, tying for fifth.

Auburn took home the team victory at the John Burns Intercollegiate last week at Leilehua Golf Course in Wahiawa, Hawaii. Cal's Stephen Hale took home top honors as an individual finishing at 15-under-par 201 for the event. Bronson Burgoon of Texas A & M finished two shots back alone in second. Glenn Northcutt and Jay Moseley were the top finishers for Auburn, tying for fourth at 12-under-par.

The University of Florida took home a commanding victory last weekend at the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational . Tiffany Chudy of Florida finished at 1-under-par to take home top honors. Teammates Whitney Myers finished third and Hannah Yun finished tied for fourth. Cindy LaCrosse of Louisville finished alone in second and Natalie Sheary finished tied with Yun.

Other AJGA Alumni in Men's College Golf...

Amrith de Soysa of Louisiana Tech shot a 1-over-par 217 to win the Rice Intercollegiate...Mississippi State's Noah Goldman finished at 1-under-par during the UTSA Intercollegiate to take home top honors. Garrett Merrell of Texas Tech, Phillip Bryan of Oklahoma and Ryan Spears of Wichita State all finished at even-par to tie for second...Point Loma Nazarene was victorious at the Carlton Oaks Invitational with Sam Cyr leading the way and tying for first at 3-over-par with Michael Mulieri of Loyola College.

Other AJGA Alumni in Women's College Golf...

Abby Bools of East Carolina helped lead her team to victory with her individual victory at the Qdoba Invitational...The Central District Invitational was won by Sara Brown of Michigan State, which also won the team championship...Andrea Zwartynski of Houston Baptist University was victorious at the Centenary Ladies Spring Invitational.

Professional Round-up

Tiger Woods won his 63rd PGA TOUR victory Sunday during the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship, defeating Stewart Cink, 8 and 7. This victory put Woods ahead of Arnold Palmer into the fourth spot on the all-time wins list.

Paula Creamer took home a one-shot victory Saturday at the LPGA's Fields Open in Hawaii. The win was her seventh as a professional golfer.
