John Deere Classic to Sponsor AJGA Event in Long Grove, Iowa

Junior golf event to be held July 16-19 at Glynns Creek Golf Course

The John Deere Classic, a PGA TOUR event, will sponsor the John Deere Classic Junior to be held July 16-19, 2007, the American Junior Golf Association announced Wednesday. The event will be held at Glynns Creek Golf Course in Long Grove, Iowa.

The 99-player, 54-hole event will feature junior boys and girls, ages 12-15. A practice round and Day of Education will be held on Monday, July 16. The Day of Education was created to help educate the younger golfers on the Rules of Golf and most events also have either a sports nutritionist, trainer or sports psychologist speak on other areas of the golf game. The first round will be held Tuesday, July 17, with the second and final rounds being played Wednesday, July 18 and Thursday, July 19, respectively.

“We’ve been pleased to be an AJGA supporter for a number of years,” said Clair Peterson, John Deere Classic tournament director. “As one of only 48 places in the world where the PGA TOUR stops, it makes sense for us to also host the next generation’s great stars. We have a long history at the John Deere Classic of giving young players, from Tiger Woods and Zach Johnson to Camilo Villegas and Michelle Wie, a chance to start their careers here with a sponsor’s exemption. The John Deere Classic Junior is a perfect extension of that philosophy.”

The John Deere Classic has been involved with the AJGA since 2001 when it began sponsoring an Open Event.

This event is one of nine in the Junior All-Star Series, which was created in 1998 to give younger players (ages 12-15) the opportunity develop their skills and earn entry into open events.

“The AJGA is very pleased to return to the Quad Cities area,” said Lee Pinchouck, AJGA VP/Midwest Regional Director. “The John Deere Classic has been a wonderful supporter of junior golf and the AJGA and we appreciate the opportunity to continue to conduct an event at Glynns Creek Golf Course.”
