Application Deadline for Mayakoba Junior Golf Classic

Mexico tournament scheduled for Oct. 5-8, 2007

Tuesday at 5 p.m. ET is the deadline to apply for the AJGA’s first-ever Open tournament in Mexico.

The Mayakoba Junior Golf Classic will be staged at El Camaleón Golf Club in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico, Oct. 5-8, 2007. This PGA TOUR venue south of Cancun will play host to 78 juniors over Columbus Day weekend.

“This golf course is world-class,” said Matt Larson, AJGA Regional Director, after conducting a site visit to the facilities. “It’s a premier PGA TOUR venue, and one of the best on the AJGA schedule.”

Larson also wanted to ease any concerns over the difficulties of international travel.

“The hotel and golf course are in close proximity at the resort,” Larson said. “Also, it is quick and easy to get from the airport to the golf course by taxi or shuttle. This is a very tourist-oriented part of Mexico.”

Specific tournament and hotel information will be finalized and available soon.

Among the tournament events, there will be a welcome reception and pairings party on the beach, following the practice round.

The AJGA is not a total stranger to Mexico, having conducted the Junior All-Star Classic hosted by Zona Norte in Monterrey in May 2006. However, this is the first AJGA Open event eligible to all ages of membership. The Junior All-Star Series event contested at Club de Valle Alto A.C. was specifically designed for boys and girls age 12 - 15 years old.

The Mayakoba Junior Golf Classic now becomes one of 81 AJGA events that will be conducted in 2007.

AJGA members can apply through the Player Center no later than 5 p.m. ET, August 28.
