Thompson Youngest Ever to Qualify for U.S. Women's Open

Alexis Thompson of Coral Springs, Florida, became the youngest player to ever qualify for the U.S. Women's Open. Thompson was one of eight players who advanced Monday through sectional Open qualifying at Heathrow Country Club.

Thompson - 12 years, four months and one day old - shot 72 and even-par 71 to finish 1-over-par. Thompson replaces Morgan Pressel, who was nine days shy of her 13th birthday when she qualified, as the youngest player to ever qualify.

In April, Thompson won the Aldila Junior Classic with rounds of 74-74 for a tournament total 148. She placed fourth at the Mizuno Junior at Chateau Elan, also in April.

This year's U.S. Women's Open is June 28-July 1 at Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C.
