AJGA Members Selected For Evian Masters Juniors Cup - 2007

International mixed-team event to take place July 22-23, 2007, at Evian Masters Golf Club

Erynn Lee of Silverdale, Wash., Grace Na of Oakland, Calif., Jordan Spieth of Dallas, and Justin Thomas of Goshen, Ky., were selected by the American Junior Golf Association to represent the United States in the first-ever Evian Masters Juniors Cup taking place July 22-23, 2007. The Evian Masters Juniors Cup, which will be staged at the Evian Masters Golf Club in Evian les Bains, France, will immediately preceed the Evian Masters – one of the world’s premier women’s professional golf events.

Conducted by the French Golf Federation and the European Golf Association, the Evian Masters Juniors Cup is an international mixed individual and team competition (made up of two girls and two boys born in 1993 or later) that will be decided over two 18-hole rounds. A boys’ and girls’ champion will be crowned along with a Nation’s Cup that will be determined by the three best scores each day. Other countries represented in the competition include France, Spain, Japan, Denmark, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Greece, Scotland and Korea.

In an effort to remain objective in the selection of the U.S. team, the AJGA used its Polo Golf Rankings and Performance Based Entry methodology as of May 31 to award playing spots to the most deserving members.

Spieth and Thomas, the two boy U.S. representatives, finished first and second, respectfully, at this year’s AJGA Junior All-Star at Walnut Creek. At the event, Spieth shot a 68-71–139 total while Thomas posted 68-76–144. Na and Lee are the second- and third-highest ranked 2011 graduates, respectfully, in the most recent Polo Golf Rankings. They were awarded selections after Alexis Thompson of Coral Springs, Fla., and Jessica Korda of Bradenton, Fla., committed to playing in the U.S. Girls’ Junior.

The U.S. Team will be escorted by AJGA V.P./Southeast Regional Director Beth Reuter, who has co-captained the past three U.S. PING Junior Solheim Cup Teams, and Pat Saunders, a long-time AJGA Board Member.

When the competition is complete Monday, July 23, players will be tournament guests during the Evian Masters practice round and will take part in a player meet-and-greet. Additionally, the three players with the lowest aggregate score – boys and girls combined – will take part in the Rolex Pro-Am on Wednesday, July 25.
