Nationwide Insurance to Host AJGA Tournament in Columbus Area
Nationwide Insurance Junior presented by the Memorial Tournament to be held at Dornoch Golf Club

Nationwide Insurance, headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, Monday was announced as the title sponsor of a national junior golf tournament in Delaware, Ohio, by the American Junior Golf Association. To be known as “The Nationwide Insurance Junior,” the event will be presented by the Memorial Tournament at Dornoch Golf Club July 31-Aug. 3. This marks the first year of a three-year commitment from Nationwide Insurance and the Memorial Tournament.

The 99-player, 54-hole event will feature the top junior boys and girls, ages 12-18, from around the country. The Nationwide Insurance Junior presented by the Memorial Tournament will include a Junior-Am tournament on Monday, July 31 at 1:30 p.m. at Dornoch Golf Club. This will be a donor’s chance to tee it up with golf’s next generation while also contributing to a worthy cause.

Proceeds from this event will benefit The First Tee of Columbus and the AJGA Foundation. Over the past decade, AJGA Junior-Ams have raised more than $1 million for junior programs in communities across the United States, including $240,000 in 2005 alone.

The first round of the event will be held Tuesday, Aug. 1, while the second and final rounds will be staged on Wednesday, Aug. 2 and Thursday, Aug. 3, respectively. Tee times will run from 7:30-11:57 a.m. off the first tee on all three days.

“This new partnership offers us a tremendous opportunity to help build a premier junior golf event,” said John Aman, Advertising and Brand Officer for Nationwide. “We are excited about the association with the American Junior Golf Association, especially as junior golf’s popularity continues to grow. We are particularly pleased to be a part of the Association’s efforts to bring the messages of tradition and integrity to youth of all backgrounds through The First Tee of Columbus program.”

Dornoch Golf Club will host the Nationwide Insurance Junior.

The AJGA will conduct an event in the Columbus area for the third time in 2006 and will return to Dornoch Golf Club which hosted the event in 2005.

“The AJGA is very excited about establishing a relationship with Nationwide Insurance,” said Lee Pinchouck, AJGA vice president/regional director, Midwest. “This event will provide another opportunity for our members in Ohio and the Midwest to showcase their talents at the national level.”

The Memorial Tournament, a PGA TOUR event that will take place June 1-4 at Muirfield Village, enters its third year of support of this junior event.
